compatibility

hi, i'm thinking of buying some kingston hyperx pc4000ish (512mb) and i was wondering if there's anyone of confirming that it would run properly on my computer. i have a dell deminsion 8200 series (**** i know, big mistake never buy a manufactured again). also, if there's another type of ram that you think is better than this for around the same price, let me know.

Stick with PC3200 as you'll never be able to use the bandwidth of PC4000 in that Dell.

i guess i'll go for 1g then since 3200 is so much cheaper.

uhm.. question.. why do you guys here in the forum use PC3200, PC2700 instead of PC400, PC333?

just curious...

I think you're trying to say DDR400 and DDR333, since there's no DDR RAM that would be rated at PC400 or PC333. Either PC3200 or DDR400 are acceptable, but PC3200 is more common.

They stopped naming ram like that once DDR came about, ram isnt named after its actual speed but either the maximum bandwidth (PC3200, meaning 3200MB\sec) or DDR (effective) speed in mhz, i.e. DDR400
