  • Main BIOS Checksum Error

Last week, my 6 month old computer has locked up while in sleep mode. The computer will not re-start until I hold the power switch for 5 seconds, then restart twice. When it initially does start, I get Main BIOS Checksum Error , it tries to reload the BIOS from HPA(?), fails, then reloads the BIOS from hdd, starting the computer.
While the computer is running, everything is fine. problems only occur after sleep or shutdown. Do I have a bad Motherboard?

    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit | Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz | GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0)

So, before I reflash, I should try the DMI data setting and load BIOS optimized defaults?
      If I flash, can I use @bios?

      thanks for the quick response

I would flash with qflash, its much safer,if @bios crashes it will brick the mb,you will see a tiny box just before flashing, untick it and then flash

XXXXXXXXX I got it to flash version FF using QFlash XXXXXXXXXXX
Now to see if it helps........

Well, first test, it sleeps and it wakes (tho a little slow, 3 seconds) now the next Question:
          Why did this happen?
Because I used @bios last time?
          or?
I had loaded Gigabytes latest Intel SATA drivers the night before, but no other changes, BIOS was last flashed last month.

An extra question - does Suspend work better than Sleep with this board/Win764/SSD?

            Re: Main BIOS Checksum Error

            When you flashed the bios.

            1. Did you selected to not keep dmi pool data(default is enabled)?
            2. After flash On first boot up; Did you enter bios load optimized defaults. Press F10 to save and reboot.
            3. Renter bios and only set things needed to boot. I.E. set memory to specs with voltage. also set HDD to AHCI or RAID. Press F10 let the system boot into windows.

That is the correct way to flash so the system can build all the correct information for the DMI data pool.

You can flash with @bios same rules apply. You have to remove the check next to keep dmi data pool. If you use @bios as you will have to use it when q-flash will not work.

If you did not follow the correct steps in flashing the bios, I suggest you reflash the bios again. This time following those steps.

Another thing that you may want to do is flash the back up bios so the Main bios and the Back up bios have the save version installed. To do that; At start up hold down the "ALT" key + "F12" key.

I dont mean to Hijack the thread but i ran into a similar problem
I'm trying to flash my Older EX58-UD5 to f13t but it says BIOS ID Error and i have to press esc. While i was in the Bios i checked an saw that my backup bios was F7 so i flashed it to the Main F12 an now both are insync so to speak. Now if i try to flash it to F13t/j or even F12 it still says Bios ID Error just as before
So i guess my question is what are my options now and what does this mean?is it that my Bios is kinda corrupted or summ?`

                    Re: Main BIOS Checksum Error

There was another option there besides @BIOS. Those BIOSs are of a different size so the q-flash won't flash them until updated.
Check that your main and backup BIOS are for your board, and try d/l the F12 or F13j for your board from GB website.

                      Re: Main BIOS Checksum Error

You'll be ok using latest @bios to flash the newer large bios's,I think its for uefi and 3tb drives, once flashed you can go back to using qflash

To the op,is everything ok now? Maybe it just needed to rebuild the dmi pool data(a list of components installed, that gets past onto the OS) just before booting up into windows,as far as I know

                        Re: Main BIOS Checksum Error

@Jinnster when you say you get a BIOS ID ERROR. Is that the actual message that q-flash gives you? Or are you seeing Bios Check sum = XXXX. As long as the check sum has 4 characters the bios is ok to flash.

If you are actually getting BIOS ID ERROR. I suggest try to redownload the bios. Maybe corrupted usb disk try to reformat it.
