    Hi there

I have a x5670 running at 4.5ghz atm on 1.328vcore using the *24 multi . However, I cant seem to get the *23 multi to work when I've enabled turbo. I can select it but when I restart its back to 24 multi.

Also another issue I have... I cant get my memory to run at its stated 1600mhz without overclocking the bclk. Adjusting the memory multi doesnt do anything.

I'm using the FH1 bois. Really great bios, I was able to drop my voltages pretty nicely since moving from FG2.

Current overclock settings are: cpu/bclk 188*24 and memory at 1512mhz

    Re: GA-X58A-UD3R V2 + intel xeon x5670 multi prob

Make sure you followed the correct directions when flashing such as clearing dmi pool data and loading optimized defaults after flash and such. If you think you may have missed a few steps in flashing you can just re flash the bios over again following the correct steps. Second make sure back up bios and main bios both match. Update the back up bios only when you are running optimized defaults.

How exactly does 23x not work? Does it not boot and then boots with overclock failed? Does it enter a boot loop? Does 22x or 21x multi work?

If you tried everything try contacting gigabyte support and tell them everything you tried and the fact a higher even number multi works but a lower multi does not work.

I think I've seen the multiplier issue posted before, not sure if it's the same motherboard, could be a BIOS issue.

        Re: GA-X58A-UD3R V2 + intel xeon x5670 multi prob

I'm actually not sure if the multi issue isnt the cpu... What are the possibilities that the cpu does not have a 23x multi? That its turbo is to jump from 22x to 24x.

I've made 100percent sure that the bios has been loaded correctly as Acebmxer asked.

In the bios I can select any multi up until 24x. However, if I decided to select the 23x multi then restart the pc, its back on 24x multi. Disabling Turbo disables multi's higher than 22x.
I would really like to be able to run on a 23x multi since then 200 bclk will result in my ram running its rated 1600mhz speed and higher total overclock control.

From what I remember the other poster had a problem with one multiplier then another multiplier after BIOS update.
The turbo thing is weird, shouldn't it be just the other way? because turbo give you +2 on the selected multiplier.

Not sure exactly what you're saying... did you mean its weird that the multi jumps from 22x to 24x without using the 23x multi? Basically I dont have a 23x multi. The bios gives the option but it doesnt use it.

I meant it makes more sense to disable multis above 22 when turbo is enabled not disabled, because turbo needs the 2 multis.
As i said I saw this behavior posted before (multi change after boot), and it did for different multipliers with different BIOS versions.

Well when turbo is disabled then any multi above 22x cant be selected as the x5670's default multi is 22x.

With my old i7 920 if I enabled turbo it gave me to option to increase the multi from 20x to 21x.
According to Intel at The Cpu should have a turbo multi of 23x not 24x. Not that I'm complaining, but I would like to have the option of the 23x multi :)

How do you make 23? or 3.33GHz it needs 25.
BTW CPU-Z text dump should have all mltipliers listed.

Bud... its a x5670 which means its stock mhz is 2.93ghz. and you get 2.93 ghz by 22*133. The cpu can turbo up to 3.2ghz by upping the multi to 24x.

On Intel's spec sheet it says the max turbo is 3.33 but that would require a 25x multi... The multi's I can use are like this: 12x-22x and 24x. I cant use the 23x multi at all. And I'm thinking the 25x multi as per intel's spec sheet is when only one core is being used but I'm unsure on that one.

Well the 920 has a max turbo multi of 22(single core only) and a max turbo multi of 21(all cores).
As with my xeon, it has a max multi of 25(but who only uses one core???), and a max turbo multi of 24(all cores).

I just really want to know why I cant seem to use the 23x multi as this would aid my overclocking efforts tremendously. Also I cant run my ram at a higher frequency without overclocking my bclk, weird I know... it just defaults back to 1333, but I think its a xeon thing.

Mainly I'm looking for a way of using the 23x multi and obviously getting n higher stable OC :) With this cpu at 4.5ghz+ I'm definitely gonna skip sandy bridge.

It could just be a BIOS issue, since the Xeon's aren't officially supported full capability may not be added in or tweaked properly.

Do you know anyone else with the same board and CPU? So you can't set x23 with turbo disabled? Probably not since x22 is the max non-turbo multi, hence why you can't use 24 without turbo enabled.

I see here max multiplier is 22, and since they show that here like this then that is what would be the max (Default) with all cores, the only reason you could use 23-25 would be due to turbo boost.

No I don't know of anyone else with the same board and cpu. Here in South Africa Gigabyte and Xeons are rediculously expensive. I was just really lucky and got mine cheap :D.

The max non turbo multi is 22x you are right. With turbo enabled the next multi I can use is 24x. I've never been able to use the 25x multi. The 24x multi works with all cores as you can see in my sig I'm running a nice 4.5ghz with HT on and all cores active @ 1.328vcore :D.

Would be really awesome if the 23x multi was an option since then I could run my ram a bit higher etc.

That could be how it's meant to be, turbo all out or turbo off, which is why you can't use the lower of the two turbo's manually.

What is the regular CPU equivalent of that Xeon, maybe I can find someone who has it and uses this board and see if they'll test the x23 multi.
