  • Physics question

Ok, i was thinking.... I have a GA-EP45t-USB3P and have a GTS450 installed for graphics. Now I have a 9400GT sitting around doing nada...can I install this card and use it for a physics card? I have a Q8400 with a small overclock (2.98HGZ) and its running very smooth and stable. So i don't need any(more) problems. If I can do this will it do any good? I mostly use this for FSX with a few add-ons and I know that FSX is mostly CPU dependent, so if the risks are worth it I will install it . Any thoughts??

    Re: Physics question

Yes it can be done. But honestly I think adding any second card for physic is just a waste of electricity and extra heat source.

As for FlightX you already said its more cpu depended which is true so you may only get 1-2 extra fps. Now if you overclock your cpu more you might get up to 10 extra fps better.

You can do it if you want just to try but in the long run I do not think it would be worth it.

      Acebmxer:Thanks for responding
It took me over a month just to get a 5% overclock that I now have. So although I would love to kick this up a notch I don't think this ram and board get along very well.
While we are on the subject, would it be better to have 4x2 gbs populating all slots or 2x4 gbs populating 2 slots.Totaling 8 gbs. I think that this is my problem with trying to achieve anything higher than 2.8ghz.(it shows 3.0 ghz in the bios but 2.8 in CPU-z.)if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them.....this board is very finicky and will let you know it in a hurry if it don't like something.

        Re: Physics question

4x2GB may be easier to overclock, but with some luck you'll be good with what you have.
If you post your settings using the remplate in this post and attach a CPU-Z text report we may advise on what can be done.
Your CPU heatsink may be limiting, what core temperatures do you get under load?

            Re: Physics question

Q8400 has max multiplier of 8, it's a BIOS bug that it lets you set 8.5 (mine does that too).
Leaving CPU Vcore/Termination/PLL on auto may dangerousely over vold them. If you have EasyTune installed please post a screen capture of Tuner -> Advanced -> Voltage tab (Alt + PrintScreen to capture front active window only).
Please attach the whole CPU-Z report too, you may need to go advanced to have this option(manage attachments).

They are not on auto the numbers in front of "auto" are what I wrote in... sorry for the confusion.Do you still want the whole CPU-Z report? Also my temps are 39c idle and 59c/61c on 100% load. I look at EasyTune for ya.

Yest the CPU-Z report is useful.
Temps are CPU temps(as shown in EasyTune) or core temps?
Please edit the template to avoid confusion, defaults on the left and auto/values on the right.

61ccore temps is fine. Hopfully it won't be much higher with Prime95.

Have you tried running this memory at 1333 with stock FSB?

I would ctually expect the CPU to do 2.8GHz or even 5GHz with stock vcore adn LLC enabled.

So would I,but for some reason any thing over what I got and no boot. I can't seem to run this ram at 1333. It is made for the x58 chip set.and I have spent many of frustrating hours getting to were i am. Getting it to work with this board has been painful:) If I change the FSB to 355 or higher I get the re boot loop and have to start all over again. Pull all the ram and put in a 1gb low end ram just to get to the bios. Then slowly build it up to the full 8gbs. It's mess up some where

Here is the CPU-Z text file. And thanks Chike for your time as well.
I would be very happy to have this running with a 400FSB @ 3.2 and the ram running at 1600 like it's suppose to. Am I asking to much with this setup?
