  • CPU problem, p-31-ds3l

hey guys, I dunno where else to ask, and since the gigabyte experts who helped me overclock a few PC's are here, ill give it a shot.

if its ok ill post the link to the thread where everything is written, let me know If its not, ill just repost all the info here.

Hopefully somoene has more experience with an issue like this :) thx in advance

    Re: CPU problem, p-31-ds3l

No need to copy the linked-to thread here.
We need details about your system.

    Follow steps #1 - #4 in http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post295784, post #5.
Copy the P35 bios template into NotePad or any plain text editor, fill in your current bios settings and post your bios settings.
Ignore the remainder of the post.
Generate a CPU-Z text report and upload the Report.txt file in your next post. Click on About and then click Save Report.txt.
EasyTune6 does not work with P31/P35 systems.

    Any questions?

Another thing to consider. I've had this CPU in my own rig before passing it down to my brother. It was working fine with pretty much the same BIOS settings on a p35-ds3l mobo. CPU was performing as it should, unlike now in the p31 mobo where performance is halved be it stock 2.4 or 3.0ghz

And I apologize for forgetting the proper procedure for help threads ;) Thx for the help

        Re: CPU problem, p-31-ds3l

Your CPU default voltage is 1.35v why are you setting it below for overclock? Try 1.35 or more.
What kind of CPU cooler do you use?

          Re: CPU problem, p-31-ds3l

I tried voltage up to 1.4 in small increments, same bench results, same issues as described, just more heat. the voltage im using is the lowest voltage that's stable with a 3ghz overclock. By stable i mean intel burn test or anything else you throw at it. It's a crash free system. cooler is the stock heatsink with the fan replaced. I installed a panaflo 80mm fan on top of the stock heatsink. Temps are fine, idle 30 C max load whn testing stability 60 C

Does that application recognizes that you have 4 cores?

its a dual core, and yes, all apps recognize the two cores. Its a strange issue that i've never encountered. a corecctly recognized CPU performing sub par.

Seems that memory performance are tthe issue here.
Try to lower Static tRead Value as much as possible.

changed mem from slots 2 and 4 to 1and 3. put tread static at 6 and 7, anything lower wouldnt post, and the bench scores and memory read/write values were pretty much the same.

                          thx for trying though.

It looks like something is wrong with the mem controler on the mobo? Not an expert in this area myself.

Don't know really as the cache speed is low too, I get about dounle at 3GHz.

Can you test with a different set of memory?
Are you using memory slots #1 and #3?
It looks like you are running with "mismatched" memory, from your report:

2GB of memory with vista or win7 is probably hurting your performance.
