  • i7-2600K + GB Z68XP-UD3P OC @ 4.4-4.5 Ghz freezing :S help needed

    Hello!

I have a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P mobo with i7-2600k cpu. I would like to OC the cpu on 4.5 Ghz 24/7. I followed this guide on my mobo here: gigabyte-ga-z68x-ud3p-b3-living-review.

On 4.5 Ghz (vcore was: 1.335, 1.340, 1.345 to avoid BSOD after 5-7 days running, but with no luck) prime did run fine for 8-10 hours, but I couldn't get a stable system, after quitting prime, I tried to shut down/restart my machine and I get BSOD all the time with error 124.
It doesn't matter if I run prime or not. When I just use my machine 24/7 without powering off after a week or so it just simply restarts with the same BSOD 124 :(

I lowered the OC to 4.4 Ghz @ 1.320v and set the ram to 1333 instead of 1600, but it is the same: after 5-7 days uptime my computer restarts with BSOD 124...

Here's my complete settings in BIOS:

What should I change to get a stable system 24/7 ?
Should I try to set Internal CPU PLL Overvoltage to Auto or Enabled ?

you can try to increase power limits:
    Turbo Power Limit (Watts)............................: [300]
    Turbo Current Limit (Amps)...........................: [300]
    and:
Real Time Ratio Changes In OS .......................: [DISABLED]
Intel(R) Turbo Boost Tech ...........................: [AUTO]

      Okey, I will.
I don't want the turbo to be ON beside 4.4 Ghz and Real time ratio change means if the cpu is idle it lowers the ghz to 1.6, doesn't it ?
I don't want my cpu to run on 4.4 constant either, whether if it is under load or idle.

OK, then I suggest to disable all energy-savings options:
        CPU Multi Threading..................................: [Enabled]
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) .............................: [Auto
        C3/C6 State Support .................................: [Auto]

If you want the cpu to drop in speed and voltes at idle you will need to enable EIST and/or C1E and then Enabled Balanced power option in windos7. If you disable these your cpu will run full speed at full voltage at idle.

For bsod error 124 you need more qpi/vtt voltage, or you need more vcore You might also try adding more System agent voltage.. Look at the link in my sig for bsod error codes.

The other thing I noticed you have loadline set to 18???? I would try something like level 6 or 7 and bump up vcore to compensate. Load line 6-7 should have no vdrop or vdroop. Load line 8+ should start to overvolt while fully loaded.

Hm-hm, it is level 8 now, but it looks like 18 on the template :)

While I tried to make it stable on 4.5 Ghz it was level 10 always, and the vcore was changed: 1.335 then 1.340, 1.345. The qpi/vtt voltage was set back to 0.950 it helped a little, but it did freeze after 5-6 days uptime (mostly idle, under load for 8-10 hours sometimes, but I tried to make it idle all the time and it freezed too :()

So you say I should set the LLC back to 6 for example for 4.4 Ghz at first ?

I dont know for sure as I do not have a one of these settups but from what I have seen from other users LLC level 6-7 seem to be the best option. Other users have choose to use level 10 to use less physical vcore and have it overshoot to what is needed for the load. The second option is more dangerous compared to the first. I personally would try and get vcore set with llc 6-7.

This also should fix your bsod at idle as there is not enough vcore to keep the system stable when useing lower vcore with higher LLC. So you see its kind of a balancing act.
