  • Help me OC an EP45T-UD3LR + Core2duo E8400

I need help overclocking a intel e8400 wolfdale processor, my motherboard is GA-EP45T-UD3LR rev. 1.0. I bought the corsair vengeance ram kit 2x4gb @1600mhz (9-9-9-24 @1.5v) and because the e8400 default FSB is 1333mhz Im not getting the @1600mhz on my memos.. I tried to get 400x9 (3.6ghz on e8400) and it was unstable, I ran memtest86 for about 20 minutes without errors, after that errors began..
One question I have, if I get more than 3.6ghz OC, lets say 3.8 or 3.9, my rams will still running at 1600mhz or they'll overclock too?

Last tried and unstable settings were:

    Code:
MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.) Robust Graphics Booster ...............: Auto
    CPU Clock Ratio ..........................: 9x
    Fine CPU Clock Ratio.....................:.+.0.0

These setting didn't gave me triple reboot after aplying it, but like I've mention before, gave me errors in memtest, and everytime I see errors on memtest I see the MF bluescreen.

BTW and FYI, Im using the corsair H50 and Arctic Silver thermal compound, do you need more info about my hardware? Please help me getting this done!

    Re: Help me OC an EP45T-UD3LR + Core2duo E8400

For the most I have seen there was not much sucesswith the 4 multiplier at over 333MHz FSB.
Yput MCH Core is way too high for 400MHz FSB.

Are the ICH volages at default?

I would recommend staring with CPU Ratio and stabilize the memory then go up with ratio and vcore if needed.

Set VTT(CPU Termination) to default, MCH Core 1.18-1.24v(as much as needed not more), DRAM Voltage 1.48-1.54, MCH Referemce 0.72-0.84v(the one that is most stable). Try SMM 4.00D/4.00B(whichever more stable, and for now set tRD(Static tRead Value) to 9 in both channels.
If SMM 4 does not work try 3.33D with timings 8-8-8-20 or 8-8-8-24.

I would also recommend using LLC(Load Line Calibration) and vcore set to default for now.

Please attach a CPU-Z text report (CPU-Z -> About tab -> Save Report (.TXT))

If Prime fail, record the FFT size that cause failure, you can then repeat the test customizing min/max FFT to this size and save time, untill it pass and then run test as normal.

I will be trying some of the settings you recommend above.. For now I just want to run my rams at their default settings, not changing its timings or voltage
      Here's the cpu-z report:

I missed seeing you have 8GB memory, you might need a bit more MCH Core though use less as possible.

Please check memory voltage in the BIOS hw monitor.

F7 BIOS lists enhanced memory compatibility, consider updating to F7 or later. Never use OC settings when flasshing, use default settings. Use BIOS built-in QFlash to flash the BIOS not @BIOS.

          EDIT:
          memory voltage is 1.504v
I've succesfully updated bios to f12e and loaded optimized defaults (latest)

Any success with 4 or 3.33 memory multipliers at 400MHz FSB?

Negative.. Last tried settings didn't boot ,stayed on gigabyte logo and didn't enter boot menu or even qflash menu, I thought It was an bios update error (I think I will re-flash to f10) but then after trying a couple of times it boot again, and here I am!

There won't be much difference between DDR1600 and DDR-1333 with tighter timings. 8-8-8-20 should be good up to DDR1422 so try 3.33D/B if 4 doesn't work. Set your MCH Core 1.28v and try to lower later.

No stable settings with cpu host frecuency 400mhz, mch frecuency latch 333, and 3.33b, timings on 8-8-8-20, boots ok but testing on prime 95 crashes after about 15 minutes..

Also tried cpu host freq at 423mhz for getting 3.8ghz but no good response either.

In both settings my mch core was 1.280v and mch reference 0.720v

Can you please post full settings?
The time pass is not important the FFT size that failed does.

I ran memtest86 for about 2 hours (2 full cycles) with no errors, and system stability tester for 45 min~ using 64m pi digits, no errors either.
I can understand prime95, If I run blend test, after about 45 minutes the system reboots, leaving no logs of were or if it did fail.
The only weird thing was after shutting down normally windows, next day when I turn on again the pc rebooted 2 times before bios, bios settings were default again. That happened just one time (can't understand why) now I turn off an on again with no problems

                        Try the following.
Where ranges or more than one value specified you need to check which is most stable for you.
Only make one change at a time.
Prime95 log is in results.txt in the same directory. If the machine crashed the value that caused it is the one that comes after the last successful test, you may scroll back and see what it was.

Have you tried both 4.00B and 4.00D multipliers?
Try with 3.33D timings 8-8-8-24 and MCH Reference auto.
If you crash/BSOD the error code may help too, you can find it in the evemt log.
