Hi all. I'm using a new Vertex 3 as a secondary SSD - my primary is an Intel SSD, connected to Port 0 on my Intel SATA controller (the 3gb/s one). Since the Intel controller on this board is only SATA2 (3gb/s speeds) and the Marvell is the only SATA 3 (6gb/s speeds) controller - do I use the Marvell? The Intel controller is only giving me ~250 MB/s speeds for the OCZ Vertex 3, which is half it's rated speed. The Marvell controller apparently has problems, but it's giving me ~350 MB/s speeds, which is great but not the rated speeds.

I assume I'm SOL with this board since the Intel controllers max at 3gb/s? Really can't believe that this board can't properly run the Vertex 3 at it's rated speed.

you will only see sata2 speeds, you can use the marvell ports for your sata3 it will be faster for sata3 drives but not as fast as the new intel sata3 boards found on newer mb's

The Intel controller is actually faster overall, sequential speeds aside as they don't really matter so much to us in actual OS usage, and the Intel controller is FAR more stable as well.

If you'd like to see a good controller comparison, with plenty of charts and benchmark examples, check out the Crucial C300 SSD review linked in my signature

Sorry Wazza, I don't know for sure :(

We've been discussing this over @ Crucial forums too, all I know is that in the beta 11.5 change logs it says next version will include it but I haven't heard when that will be. I will let you know once I see a newer version

Intel Raid rom 11.5.0.1111 has been for awhile now. I have made a few bios mods for people. I believe 10.8 is official release alone with 10.8 drivers no 11.5.0.1111 drivers.

Maybe trimm support will come in official release of 11.5 rom and/or drivers.

Yes, I know and have it too, but that change log is from drivers not ROM's.

So I believe we are waiting on newer drivers than the one listed above, unsure if new ROM will be needed or not.

                    Re: X58A-UD3R (v2) - slow SSD speeds Vertex 3

Glad to hear and it looks like trim support in raid will not me limited to the latest chipset. So users wont have to by a new board to get the support just need to update driver and/or mod a bios for it.

I thought X79 was supposed to bring trim support since they are using the Enterprise version of IRST. But I think that was to bring SAS to the board which they ended up dropping.

@toran0x I forgot to ask if you would like a modded bios with the lastest 10.8 or 11.5 raid rom there should a post from me in the bios sticky forum or if you would like the bios that you are using to be modded just let me know and see if that helps with speeds or not. Pretty sure your at max but it may help. Just let me know.
