Can someone on help me?, im running a core i7 950 @4.04ghz, and crucial ballistix tracer 1600mhz @1820mhz, now, i started of at just 3.5ghz overclock and ram @1800mhz, ram stayed at xmp profile and auto voltage, had turbo enabled so it pushed it over 3.8ghz sometimes, all completley stable and booted fine. Other day , changed to 4.ghz, and ram to 1820mhz, changed voltage on ram to 1.68, that got clocked down to 1.664, cpu voltage is at 1.312v which is nothing really at 4ghz, only thgings ive changed in bios are , ram multiplier, cpu multiplier, baseclock, ram voltage, cpu voltage, evrything else is on auto with xmp profile enabled, baseclock is 182, ram multiplier 10, cpu multiplier is 22, anyway, since pushing cpu and ram up from previous overclock which was done in the same way, my pc is resseting itself 4 times at switch on then will boot, and will stay booted, overclock is 100% stable, if i just reboot after the initial switch on everything is fine, but soon as its shutdown and have to switch on it will reset again 4 times, i can here the click and the leds go off on the mobo, untill today with nothing changed it was just 3 resets, now i get 4, doesnt even get to post screen, soon as you touch the switch, it powers up, stays powered up but can here the click and see the leds go off 4 times like something is being adjusted before boot type of thing, but it shouldnt be doing this, what i can see is that all the voltage lights are on for the ram and will change down to just 1 green and 1 yellow after post screen, could it be this?

Which stability tests did you run and for how long before overclocking to 4.0GHz.
Copy the bios template in http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post312014, post #1 using the X58 template into NotePad or any plain text editor, fill in your current bios settings and then post your settings in you next post.

Are you sure every thing is "OK" after boot?
In addition to your settings, can you post screen capture of CPU-Z CPU and Memory tab, and EasyTune -> Tuner -> Advanced -> Voltage tab (might be 2 of them)

Re: GA-X58A-UD3R v2 Instant resets at switch on with 4ghz overclock

From my experience this is normal. The clicking you hear and what appears to be restarting is the motherboard/bios double/tripple checking your setting to make sure they are bootable. This usually only happens when the system is powered off then powered on. If you restart it usually starts as normal or if you enter the bios and dont make any changes after start it will start as normal.

Please make sure you are using the latest bios available for your board. Also like the other have asked what are you using to stress test.

Ah, this is re assuring, i tried to post the cpuz picures and lost everything i wrote lol, so , are you 100% sure this is ok then? As for easy tune, ill never use it, doesnt work properly ever, when i gave it a go once, i was reprting all kinds of crazy crap, saying my memory was made by other than the manufactuar, my pc crashed when i boosted it with easy tune, never ever have that on my system again. So does your overlcok do the same thing with your mobo?

ET6 Should work just fine, You have to make sure you are using the latest version. ET6 should only be used to see bios setting in windows not to apply overclock settings.

The clicking you hear is normal but it can also be a sign that your settings are on the edge of stable.

Again what are you using to test for stability? Are you using the latest Bios?

For testing im using aida 64, windows memory diagnostic tool, and intel burn test, and yes im using the latest bios, one that you modded for me ace. i treid with lower ram speed and auto voltage, i get just the 1 click reset.Just to be clear, i had my ram voltage at 1.70v prior, and still i had 3/4 clicks at switch on, i recently lowered the ram voltage to 1.68v and is still making the same clicks and im still stable. Also i can live with the clicking, i just need to know that its not damaging anything and that one day its not going kill anything.

did you back up the second bios chip with the main? press hold alt and f12 at splash screen and it will do it

you might do better seeing what auto uses for qpi/vtt and manually setting it? could be bios/mb trying to find stable setting hence the clicking?

Yes thats about All ET6 is good for. Other then making minor changes to voltages just to test then manually apply changes to bios afterwards.

And sorry I not great with names.

Updating how? !BIOS You can find the latest utilities for your board at GB site
                            GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1366 - GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0)

EDIT: better remove the old version completely before installing the new one, and you can disable auto start at logon.
