  • 78lmt-s2p ethernet card trouble.

    Hi,
New member here. Just got a new MB 78lmt-s2p, rev. 5, bios F2. Install win 7, all hardware was detected by Win 7 except for ethernet card, install driver 2.0.4.4. for atheros from provided CD. Under hardware, card is detected, driver install and working. Connected the cable to my router, after a few second, comes back with a yellow triangle on the modem/router icon bottom right. I get a "network non identified/no internet access" translation from french.
Connection shows a 10Mb speed. I've tried just about everything, reset router, new router, reinstalled driver, new driver, new cable. took the computer to neighbour and tried on his network with same result. Reinstall Win 7 tried 32 & 64 bit., and even XP. Same result. Got a USB wifi and downloaded all upgrade from MS and Service Pack 1 for Win thinking that ..... well no. Google the problem, few have had the same problem but no apparent solution. Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks.

Try clearing CMOS, battery out and CLR_CMOS pins shorted for 30+ minutes.
Turn the PSU off then dischanrge by pressing the power button once, remove the battery and short the CLR_CMOS pins.
When done remove the short, reinstall the battery. The first boot enter BIOS and load optimized defaults, save and reboot again.

You should be still covered by warrenty so if you cant fix it you should contact GB support for an RMA

Thanks for responding. Gave it a tried this morning but still the same. I had already cleared the CMOS but didn't do the load optimized default. I've updated the Bios to F3a but still the same. I've contacted Gigabyte via email but waiting ....

        Re: 78lmt-s2p ethernet card trouble.

From post #1 it looks like the driver installed without any problems.
Are there any bios settings that deal with LAN/ethernet options?
Are you sure that the problem is not because of a firewall setting?
Do you have a cross-over network cable that would let you test with your computer directly connected to another computer?

If you want to try different drivers check out http://forums.tweaktown.com/asrock/4...ur-system.html where I recommend an "unofficial" Atheros driver download (CZ) website. It appears that your GB drivers are for the Atheros 8151 family.

I've disabled and reenabled the card in the Bios. Still no go. Firewall not an issue for sure. Finally got a hold of Gigabyte Technical Service in Cal. Tech had me check a few thing in the bios, wanted me to reinstall driver, which have done many times . Ask to check Lan Mac adress in bios to see if there. Adress is present. Since it is connecting at 10 Mb and LED activity, he concluded that the board is defective. I'm returning MB to vendor for a replacement. Let you know when the new one comes in if the problem is corrected.

            Re: 78lmt-s2p ethernet card trouble.

It was quite obviouse from the OP, just never hurt to try a long CMOS clear.
You said you've seen other users with the same issue so they may be aware of it already.

The one that I found, this person bought two 78LMT-S2P and both had the problem Lan.
GA-78LMT-S2P - Rev 4.0 Network card not working..
Another one had the same issue but with Linux.
Today, did install a PCI Lan card and it is working perfectly, so I guess this confirm a bad MB.
Just hope the replacement won't have the same issue.
Thanks for all the help guys, I'll keep you posted wit the replacement.
