  • Very Frustrated. Gigabyte x58a-ud3r rev 1.0 issues

    Hey All,

Recently I had a hard drive failure, it has 1 bad sector on it, and will not longer boot into windows. I got a new hard drive (several at this point) and proceeded to run my windows 7 install disk. The install goes through the whole process as normal until it gets to the last part "completing installation". At this point the computer restarts (as it should) and then even though the drive is detected in the bios and shows up as it is booting up, it keeps going into a restart loop.

This happens with any drive I have tested it with, which leads me to believe it is an issue with the motherboard. Any suggestions?

I currently have F6b bios on there and I tried updating to the F7L one from the gigabyte website however when I get into QFlash it tells me that the size is incorrect.

The hard drives in question are a seagate 2tb sata 6gb/s drive (fails seagate tools tests), a Seagate 1tb hard drive (newest just got it today from best buy), and my original Hitachi Deskstar 1 TB drive ( this is the one with the one bad sector).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Better? Added my system specs. However this system has been running fine now for over 2 years. Have not done much to it besides the occasional hardware upgrades, built it in April / May 2010, so not really sure what the problem could be besides the motherboard or the hard drives.

There's your problem. Can you flash back to the previous bios?

I cant, that F6B bios was on there since I had first just made my computer. Is there a guide as to how to do it without using qflash? even though I would rater use qflash. Also for future reference how can I save the current bios so I can switch back to it in case something goes wrong?

you can save your entire bios including settings with @bios,it writes the file as a bios file to your hdd and you can flash with it in qflash,

as for hdd's/booting try doing a full cmos clear by leaving mb battery out overnight, take pics of your bios settings beforehand as it will wipe them, did you install the seagates on sata3/marvell ports? tried on intel sata2 ports?

This should answer all your questions even the wrong size.

Before flashing BIOS,please read: BIOS Flashing - A "How To ~ Qflash Guide" In case of Q-Flash issue (size error) - flash under DOS with FLASHSPI or @BIOS / @BIOS (X79) /@BIOS (Z77)

you have to use @bios with the larger bios's,its a one off flash, once done updated you can go back to using qflash, long as you use latest @bios you should be fine

Isnt @bios only available inside of windows? I currently have no operating system on the hard drive. I tried to go through a clean windows 7 install, however that is where I am having the problem.

ahh yeah sorry, you can flash to the last small bios file though, you might need to try installing windows with hdd on intel sata2 port if you originally tried on sata3?

id try with the 1tb hdd the others might be problematic if they are throwing up errors ect

It is on the sata 2 and should I try using F6 bios instead of the F6b that I already have installed? Something odd is happening though now cause I cant even get into the bios anymore, my keyboard which is ps2 has stopped working. Going to try and locate another keyboard but really odd for it to just stop working.

Tried pressing the clear cmos button and it didnt seem to do anything, next step is going to be to take the cmos battery out and see if tha thelps it over night.

I cant get to @Bios, because I dont have an operating system installed on this hard drive, thats what I want to do but not at that step yet :(. Really weird problem now happening with the keyboard. Keep trying to reset the cmos and hopefully it will pick up my keyboard again. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.
