So I purchased a ga-a55m-ds2 Gigabyte board off NewEgg last week. Unfortunately (in this case) it came with a $15 rebate. However the rebate deadline was a few days after I received the board, so thinking nothing of it, I clipped off the UPC bar-code off the box quickly and sent it in to get the rebate. I guess I took the bait...LOL. Well, by doing that, I voided NewEggs return policy and now cannot simply send it back to NewEgg for a replacement.
ANYWAY. The board runs great and everything BUT the PCI slot is faulty or something, i've tried everything. I've tried so many working PCI cards tested in other PCs, and when I put those same cards in the a55m-ds2, every different version of Windows i've tried, detects the cards, I install the driver, Windows says they're working, but none of them do. The sound cards I've been trying to use install correctly and everything, but there's no sound output regardless of what settings I use digital/analog or what devices I try and use- 2 different sets of speakers, 2 different headphones, etc. All the same result, no sound. I've tried all the different drivers, settings, fresh installs of different OS's (XP/Vista/7) all with the same results.
I also tried a few PCI Ethernet nics I had laying around, tested them in another PC beforehand...all worked. I put them in this board, they install great but then then display a "network cable is not connected" error, in some cases "this device cannot start"
i've tried different PSUs and everything. Anyone else know what the problem could be? Also in the midst of this I tried to use the onboard sound and I get nothing but extreme amounts of static and motherboard/hdd/fan sound noises coming through my speakers. Even when I move the mouse, there's a feedback noise heard through the speakers. Doesn't matter what devices I use, or what other devices I have plugged into the same surge protector, etc.
I assume this is just a faulty board and I should RMA it? I'm all out of options here...................... I don't even care that the onboard sound doesn't work, I'm not even interested in using it...I always opt for a soundcard over onboard.....but nothing is working here. I even updated the BIOS to version f2b, with no luck.
