  • P35 system: SSD Recommendations?

    Hi all, I currently have a P35-DS3L 2.0 motherboard and a Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB SSD.

I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a better SSD that would be worth upgrading to?

    Any information is greatly appreciated!

    Re: P35 system: SSD Recommendations?

256GB models generally have somewhat better performance than 128GB drives, but this won't matter with your sata2, P35-DS3L motherboard. If you plan on moving your new ssd to a new system in the future, I recommend going with a 256GB model.

As you already know, but for the benefit of others, never buy any ssd that uses asynchronous nand, no matter how good the price is.

    http://forums.tweaktown.com/storage-...rformance.html has more information.

    The bottom line:
    asynchronous drives = inferior performance.
    synchronous drives = superior performance.

Many newer ssd models use toggle nand and these should offer the best overall performance.

My 2: For an ssd o/s boot drive, the 4K read and write scores are most important.

        Re: P35 system: SSD Recommendations?

I wouldn't update such an old system even the option moving the SSD to a newer machine in future should be really near future. M.2 cards are arriving in the market now which allows better access times and higher throughput.
Just buy a new SSD, when buying a new computer.

          Re: P35 system: SSD Recommendations?

The OP''s Kingston V300 240GB ssd uses asynchronous nand and has some performance issues.
Will a newer ssd that uses synchronous or toggle nand make his system feel faster and more responsive? Yes.
Will the improvement be significant? Probably not.

Motherboards that support the faster sata-express standard will offer even more performance.
