  • N551JQ Multi Media laptop IPS Panel?????

Just picked up a N551JQ-EH71 from NewEgg for $699 which on the surface was an awesome deal considering the specs. Part of the reason for picking it up was the 178 degree viewing angle you get with an IPS panel. If you look at the user reviews several people have complained about poor viewing angles and that color accuracy was not very good. When I got it, the screen was crisp and clear , but when I viewed it from the sides it definitely faded like a cheaper TN panel.

I went Windows device manager and found the hardware id for the monitor which read AUO36ED. After some googling it appears to be a cheap TN panel Optronics B156HTN03.6
I called ASUS tech support and gave them my serial number and insisted they identify the make and model of the panel. I was conveniently disconnected.

Since I'm not the only with this issue, I'd like to ask ASUS what is going on and how this might be resolved. I've got 20 days to return it to NewEgg.

The problem has been "resolved" with an RMA and a Y700 from Lenovo. New Egg & ASUS still claiming N551JQ-EH71 has an IPS display... which is incorrect. The more expensive, but pretty much unavailable N551JQ-DS71 does.
