Need help OC'ing i7-930 with Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 to 3.8ghz

tell me what current cpu voltage is used when you set cpu voltage to normal in the bios,look in bios and it will show cpu voltage,not in windows and tell me and ill tell you what to set dvid to

the CPU Vcore is set at 1.21250V
the dynamic Vcore(DVID) is 0V
the QPI/VTT is 1.2V
and the CPU PLL is 1.8V

Also are the other items I listed a non issue? like the Isonchronous frequency and the extreme memory profile

This is my baby and my first PC build so although I'm learning a lot I'm still apprehensive.

those other things dont matter,can set extreme memory to standard though

set cpu voltage to normal and set dvid to + 0.135v which will give you 1.35v total cpu voltage,might be able to lower later or might need more

set qpi/vtt to 1.32v or round about

i tried to make the changes you suggested. I wasn't able to select +.135 for DVID because that was not an option (I don't think), so I chose +.13125. I think the next option was +.137. I started the PC after saving and it gives me the windows failed to launch messages. It automatically performed the startup repair and asked do I want to restore my PC using system restore. I selected restore. I still could not load windows afterwards so I tried to clr-CMOS. I checked BIOS 'QUICKLY' and everything looked back to normal. Tried to start up again and it still would not load windows. I then went back into BIOS and the CPU clock ratio was changed to x15. Making my speed only 2.00Ghz (not 2.8). I changed it back to x21 and it's starting back up.

any thoughts? I know that's a lot of information...

I was going for 3.8. My stock settings are 2.8Ghz. It showed 3.8Ghz but it just would not load.

Thanks for your help I still have PC issues though. When the PC is booting up it shows the speed is 3.78Ghz. When the PC was completely booted my icons were how they were yesterday. Not how they were 2 hours ago. I also didn't have the two last programs I installed from yesterday as well. That was odd but it didn't bother me. My issue was my windows index score and every other test used showed my speed still being 2.8Ghz. A few of my temperatures were a little higher though including the Watts used.

did you do a restore? if you did it will restor to before you installed those programs? as for true ghz speed wei wont recognize it,its same for me,use cpu-z and stress the cpu,then you will see true ghz speed

im sorry it crashed and ruined your settings,did those settings work above that i gave you? id forgot what you wanted to clock to before

i gave you settings so it auto downclocks the cpu at idle saving power and switches to full speed when needed or stressed,so to see true speed of the cpu you have to stress it a little

EDIT,its upto you now to fine tune the dvid voltage,test it for stability and try and reduce it if you can or add more if needed,you might be able to improve temps but anything below 80c on the cores are fine,use realtemp to check
