GHz vs MHz

This will sound dumb, but I still would like to know... servers list their processors as MHz and Desktop list theirs as GHz. what is the Diff. is one faster than the other .. thanks

1 GHz = 1000 MHz
It's just a frequency term. It can be used with many things, but in this case it's for the clock speed of processors.

Well see if this helps a bit more, 1.6GHz = 1600MHz, 2.4GHz = 2400MHz, 3.2GHz = 3200MHz.

Now, do they really mean 1 gig = 1000 megs, or is it 1 gig = 1024 megs? That's the way it should be, though the 1:1000 is much easier the understand and do the math with.

That's only with bytes because those go by mulitples of eight. Hertz measures frequency and can just go by the normal metic system (which is where the terms Giga, Mega, and Kilo come from).

Bits / bytes are worked out in binary, so it's 2 to the power of whatever..

2^10 = kilobyte
2^20 = megabyte
etc...

That's for space/size but doesn't have anything to do with speed.

This reminds me of this one retarded time when I went into RadioShack. I asked for a 2GHz cable splitter, and he came back with a 2000MHz splitter and said they dont have any 2Ghz splitter. So he offered me the 2000MHz splitter instead. Yea... I think it's more a "you had to be there" thing. BTW, will the 2GHz splittter make your cable modem speed go faster or your cable TV quality better?
