SATA drive shows as SCSI

I have one SATA hard drive connected to SATAll0 on the motherboard. I am not going to use RAID. Why is my hard drive displaying as SCSI in Windows XP Device Manager, even though I loaded the SATA driver from floppy during the OS install on the new HDD?

These are the settings I chose for install:

When I created the Driver Diskette from the GIGABYTE installation drivers disk for Windows XP Pro, I chose number 5 from the following options:
1)GIGABYTE SATA-RAID Driver(x86)
2)GIGABYTE SATA-RAID Driver(x64)
3)SB600 SATA
4)SB600 SATA(Vista)
5)SB700/750 SATA
0)exit

These are my SATA settings from the BIOS Integrated Peripherals:
OnChip SATA Controller [Enabled]
OnChip SATA Type [AHCI]
OnChip SATA Port4/5 [IDE]

Isn't SCSI for RAID? I don't want to RAID, only want it to recognize as SATA.

Also, I read in this forum that you can download the SB driver seperate from the RAID driver at the ATI website. Would it be different if I reformatted and only use the SB driver from ATI website?

Isn't SCSI for RAID?

No, SCSI is a peripheral interface just like ATA is. Nothing to do with RAID.

This looks like explanation. (First hit for Google: "SATA shows as SCSI") Ie answer is: "normal"

Please forgive my ignorance. I haven't built a computer in 7 years and a lot has changed since then. This new rig is a budget build and I just want to make sure i am getting the most of each component. Oh, and don't worry...I am not EVEN considering overclocking

I have a question about memory i'll ask in another forum but...

If someone would induldge one more question. After the BIOS posts, a screen for ACHI prompts me to control>A if I want to use the Hyperdrive Utility. What is the Hyper Drive Utility and what is it used for?

Yes it is normal, you are using AHCI and that and or RAID will show as SCSI. Kind of the same as SATA (NON AHCI/RAID) will show as IDE Devices

Using an ATI Direct driver would only give you a newer driver is all, up to you if you feel you need the latest. Normally this is suggested at the begining of installs not later, or for users having issues with pre-packaged drivers, but you can do it anyway you like.

Just either get your drivers direct from the sources (RealTek, ATI, Ect) or at least download them directly from the Gigabyte web page for your board as the ones on the CD are likely dated >>

I'm pretty sure that if I say that my first inclination is- if I'm wrong, I'll be corrected - to say that the "Press CtrL+A to enter Hyper Drive Utility" option is to access the DOS version of the Hyper Drive Utility that Lsdmeasap mentioned. (Drivers & Tools | GAME.AMD.COM ty Lsdmeasap.)

You said that you haven't built in seven years, so basically around six to seven years ago these types of utilities became very popular.

But the problem is they have delivered very mixed results. A kind of rule of thumb developed as a result, which was/is to always Overclock manually, directly from inside BIOS and maybe, just maybe, don't even install them. But I say maybe because there are many good things about them. For example, you can still use them (Windows based Overclocking Utilities) for many useful things like temperature and Voltage readings and verification of other Utility's readings. So they can be extremely helpful and always investigated.

Right away I noticed in the middle of the first page of the site, that Lsdmeasap was so kind to provide a link to, (Drivers & Tools | GAME.AMD.COM ty Lsdmeasap.) and the beginning of its following description and how it just jumps out as being so typical:

Another thing, is that maybe they have made a masterpiece or finally, a utility for OCing that is as good as just using BIOS settings. And the option to "Press CtrL+A to enter Hyper Drive Utility" is maybe a clue, because not all of these utilities have included it (DOS versions). Maybe this is more than a DOS version and directly controls the actual BIOS setting threw a GUI style version of BIOS.

So the first of two possibilities are: to find out everything about the use of the Windows based and the DOS based "Hyper Drive Utility". Along with success stories, plus the rudimentary, and advanced potentials of it. And maybe its only worth partially using it and maybe its worth fully implementing. All I know is that having it as an option can be a mixed blessing. But better to have it, as a possibility, no matter how big or small a tool, than not at all.

The second possibility is: to uninstall it. (It might be built into a non-volatile chip on your mobo but IDK yet. And in that case you'd simply disable it in BIOS.)

I haven't researched yet, but if you have a new Motherboard with a dual BIOS... well that may be a really sweet! And a tool that makes the "Hyper Drive Utility" practically insignificant. And a much bigger opportunity when it comes to Optimal and stable OCing.

But please add all your Specifications to your Tweak Town Signature.

2. Click, " Edit Signature " on the left of your Control Panel.

3. Copy/paste your signature:

Computer doesn't start..
I bought a new computer and I setup all drivers. Finally, sound driver. Computer asked "do you want to restart computer" I said yes. But now Computer become a fail to start. What I must?
