  • CPU Fan Control on GA-Z77-UD5H/3570K

I am trying to use the PWM, Normal, Manual and ET6 to get control of the Push/Pull H60 cooler on this system. The fans are Blade Master 120's which run can run from 600 rpm to 2000 rpm. Can someone please explain how the Manual/Slope PWM works when the CPU Fan Mode is set to Manual? When I set the Slope PWM to 2.0 the fans run at ~1350 rpm @ 55C. When I set the Slope PWM to 2.5 the fans run at ~1500 rpm @ 55C. It looks like it is doing something but I haven't been able to figure out the formula.

I then tried ET6 to control the fans. If I set Smart CPU Fan to Disable the fans run at ~2000 rpm as they should. ET6 Default and Advance seem to work as expected. So which is the better choice BIOS settings or ET6? Also, can someone explain where or how ET6 settings effect the BIOS settings and/or where does it store the information so it is available on the next boot?

Now, as usual, I stumble into a problem. For some reason when I am playing with the BIOS CPU Fan settings and then start ET6 the CPU Fans get stuck at ~1000 rpm even though I'm running Prime95 and the CPU temp is ~55C. If I shut the system down and reboot fan behavior returns to "normal".

I am running this system at the default settings for now and it jumps to a CPU temp of 55C (Core1) when running Prime95 in a matter of seconds. The P8Z68-V Pro/2600K system runs Prime95 (8 threads) @ 4.5GHz for hours and never exceeds 58C! It looks like I made a mistake and should had purchased a H70, H80 or H100 for this hot little system?

    ProfJim,
I installed Chrome for the TweakTown Forums, as you suggested, and it appears to work without any issues. So... if something gets in your way (IE9) go around it!

Like you saw, the higher you set the PWM slope the higher the rpm. When I was using an air cooler (NH-D14) I was using the 2.50 setting-it seemed to ramp up to max rpm's quicker.
I personally don't care to use ET6 for fan control, I use a hardware controller, and I don't know where settings are stored but to get it to start up on next boot you tick the setting when you right click on the tray icon. Will it preserve settings? I don't know.

Yeah I think an H60 is underkill for an IB cpu if you overclock. But 55c is not bad, better get used to higher temps cause IB ain't SB. If you want a real thrill click the automatic overclock "feature" in the new ET6. But I've seen some surprisingly "low" temps with some coolers I wouldn't think would cut it, if the posters are to be believed that is.

What are your max temps under load?

By under load you mean running Prime95 with all the workers activated - then that is what I quoted above - the 2600K @4.5GHz with 8 workers maxes out at ~58C. It used to max out at 63C until I went Push/Pull with the higher speed Blade Master Fans. The 3750K quickly goes to 56C on core one and then seems to settle back in the low 50's. That's core one or zero depending on how you want to count. The other three cores run a few degrees cooler. I have not run an extensive stability test on the 3750K system since I'm still playing with the default settings.

I forgot to mention that the room temperature (basement) where I running these computers is between 17 and 18C.

you save a profile in easytune, are they still the fan sliders and percentages in easytune? i havnt used it since x58,you can set when/what percentage the fan ramps up and the rpm, those chips run hotter anyway so id expect very sharp temp rises asloas its not overheating its fine,my i7 920 was the same, temps would shoot up very quickly and then shoot back down again

17c ambient, yeah that would bring some lower temps. It's pretty much 24-25 in this room.
