  • 62 ºC PCH Temperature, what's yours? Also Bad smell...

Hi, i have my ud5h with PCH 62ºC and system 42ºC on idle. CPU is normal... around 30ºC.

I'd like to know how is your temperature. Doesn't need to be an ud5h. Any gigabyte would help understand the values of gigabytes PCH temperatures.

    I think 62ºC is a little high i think.

BTW, any of you felt a strange smell on the first days of the board? Like melted plastic? I am curious if this is just because its a new pc or if any issue with my motherboard.

    Many Thanks.

62c at idle is high. Sounds like you need some more fans going. But I wouldn't worry too much about damaging the board, just get some more air moving.

      Thanks...

And about smells? My smells wierdo. Like melted plastic, its not really intense, but after a while the smell just gets on the entire room. I am wondering if its the new smell or is just something that is wrong...

      Btw, what's your PCH temperature?

PCH temp is 55. No smells, but my board has been in service a while.

pch is the chipset apparently. See this post:

          **[Official]** GIGABYTE Z77X Owners/Discussion/Information/Support Thread and Club (UD5H, UD3H, D3H, and ALL)

56 degrees C not an issue, but if it jumps up a lot higher then maybe. As for the smell, I never smelled anything like burnt plastic on my board. You may want to look around and see if you have a wire touching a hot spot (i.e., base of cpu heatsink, etc.).

what does pch come under in aida64? is it the motherboard temps? 62c is ok depending on ambient temps,i know on x58 they ran hot,z77/ib is similar regarding temps

My PCH Temp is between 54 / 58 d.c. no worries.

Had no plastic smell at all, could be you have a faulty mb or bad capicitors?

Would check all your cables an try to determine the source and need be return
                    the mb to the retailer.

I did experience the smell you are talking about and it is very apparent. I suspect that you have a outdated USB cable from your case hooked up to your modern Mobo. Which means you are possibly shorting some pins and frying your board, this causes the melted /burning plastic smell. Thats what happened to me with my old case.
Please recheck all your cables and confirm with your manual for Mobo and case. You can find case manual on the mfr's website. If you need help interpreting the manuals please let me know what is case Manufacturer and model number.

I dont thing that's the issue. My case is new, Fractal R3 design, so i dont thing it's a outdated USB cable. I dont know how to define the smell. Plastic/metallic? The smell seems to come near the north bridge, but cant know for sure. Maybe i will just send my PC to the place where i bought it and see if they can check it.

My board is UD5H. I tought it might just be the smell of a new pc, but now i dont think so... The smell remains...

BTW, does yours VRM of north bridge any hot? Mine is totally cold. The south bridge (PCH zone) is really hot on touch, but the north bridge is totally cold? Is it normal?

                        Thanks

Then my next guess (seeing as I am not there and able to use my senses and knowledge to double check my work) would be that the power supply is slowly dying. If you know anything about electronics then the powersupply is where some major heat is generated to turn 120Hz AC into 3.3V 5V and 12V Smell the output of the powersupply to verify this. You could also swap a known good powersupply in to see if the smell goes away.

Another thought is you have a graphics card thats requiring more power than your PSU powersupply can deliver. Assuming you are running a discrete graphics card. By the way we did not get a full rundown of all your hardward which is usually what is required in order for us to give you more information on your problem. Please list the manufacturer and model of your power supply, at the very least.

Are you connected straight to the wall or are you using a Back up power supply?
