  • GA Z77x up5 th with Intle 520 ssd and W8 pro.

Since last week I have problems that W8 pro freezes and after a reboot the SSD in no longer recognised.

Also happens that when I switch on my pc the Ssd in not there, managed to reset the mb and most of the
    times windows 8 than boots.

Last week I did a clean W8 install and replaced a sata cable, just to be sure but the problem is still there.

I have all W8 updates the lastest bios 12e, not sure I the mb is causing this problem or the SSD.

Did a Intel Full Diagnostics and the SSD gave no errors.

    Any thought idea's?

    Thanks.

What BIOS version are you using? You should be on the newest.

I've had no problems with my 520's, but I'm not using Windows 8.

Windows 8 can be troublesome, due to drivers for Win 8 not being tested by Microsoft as much as they have in the past.

Are you using an Intel SATA port for the 520? What SATA driver are you using? What SATA mode are you using?

what settings are you using for your memory? using x.m.p? and have you set cpu voltage response to fast in the bios? it could be crashing due to instability and causing ssd detection problems as a result?

I'm using bios 12e, but I wonder whether this is causing the problems and that I should go back to 11?

Have no x.m.p. setting on my Kingston 1600 mhz 2 x 4gb modules, have been using them on setting
            1866 mhz 10 10 10 30 for months without any problems.

After a load optimized setting I noticed the following and wonder whether I need to change anything.

            os/type other os

            boot mode uefi & legacy.

just had a cold boot problem even with memory set at standard 1600 mhz 9 9 9 27

you can try with dram between 1.5-1.65v depending on what speed you run the memory at,it should help with cold boot issues, and manually setting the bclk to 100 and pressing alt and f10 repeatedly and fast at splash screen, this flashes both bios chips with the same version of bios and helps with boot loops at startup

you could try f11 and see if its any better

tks. will set the bclk at 100 manually but I have no loop issues, just that the ssd is sometimes not recognised during booting.

What happens when you set the OS to Windows 8 in the BIOS?
I have no clue what the BIOS does different, but the setting must be there for a reason.

If all else fails you might try unplugging all drives but the SSD in SATA_0, hit optimized defaults and reboot to BIOS, set everything like you need it and then reboot into Windows. Then power down and plug the rest of your drives in and see if it makes a difference.

I did once get a msg. something like please remove all other hardisk devices.

I will do this when i get the same problem, so far once W8 boots correctly the system seems stable.

Well this likely won't affect any boot loop problems, but might help with the SSD being recognized.

If you select Windows 8 in the bios, a GPT disk is made instead of mbr., so I was so fed up that I did a brand new W8 install on GBT mode.
So far I have not had the problem but I will monitor and let you all now.
