  • No USB Control on Initial Boot

    Hello.
Here's an interesting problem. I just installed my Z87 M OCFormula, and it did boot, and is reading my windows 7 install from the previous motherboard, however, I have no USB control...which means I have no mouse or keyboard. So, I can not log in, navigate, or even reinstall the Windows OS, simply because I cant maneuver around.
What am I supposed to to now??
    Windows 7 Pro
    ASRock Z87M OCFormula
    1150 socket

What type of keyboard and mouse are you using? Wireless? USB? PS/2?
If they are USB devices, make sure that they are connected only to usb 2.0 ports, not usb 3.0 ports.

To install windows, you should have only one ssd or hard drive connected to your system in addition to an optical drive if needed for the installation.
If I were installing windows onto a hard drive or ssd, to avioid win7 installation problems, I would have a completely empty "boot" drive.

Re: No USB Control on Initial Boot

The mouse and keyboard work fine inside BIOS, so the USB's are working inside BIOS. It's when I leave BIOS and get into the Windows OS it no longer reads any USB's.
So here's what I've done so far:
      1. Tried a different Mouse and Keyboard...did not help (I no longer have any PS2 stuff anymore)
      2. tried updating the BIOS...did not help
      3. Try loading Windows on a clean/empty disk...did not help
      4. Tried disabling USB Legacy support inside BIOS...did not help

The reason I can't reload Windows, is I get to the window where I have to choose my language, this is where I can not go any further, because I have no keyboard input to use the arrows or the enter button...I'm stuck on that window.
This is my first ASRock motherboard, It may be my last. There is deffinately something wrong with the board

Yeah, I think this board is mature for a warranty return.

So you are loading a Windows installation image from the "previous motherboard", for use on your Z87M OCF? If that is correct, what was that mother board?

Since you can use your mouse and keyboard in the BIOS, then you can't say that the USB hardware itself is broken, it obviously works.

I'll ask Prof Jim's question again, what type of mouse and keyboard are you using? But since you tried another pair of them, and it sounds like you are putting a different board's Windows image on your new board, all the drivers and INF files are not right, and your keyboard and mouse problems are just the tip of the iceberg.

Re: No USB Control on Initial Boot

OK, so I got it working...and here's what I did.
You are correct, this is a new Motherboard (ASRock) replacing a ASUS Maximus VI GENE, therefore, the ASUS profile/image was still in the same hard drive...this I understand is an issue. So, because I originally still have the old motherboard profile/image on the same hard drive, I deleted all partitions inside the hard drive; thus, starting out with unallocated space for the entire hard drive. Afterwords, I still could not get any keyboard or mouse to work (regardless of which brand of keyboard or mouse I tried) therefore, I still could not load Windows.
So, before sending the Motherboard back as defective, I went back inside the hard drive and did a complete wipe of the hard drive, which took for ever! Now, I definitely have a clean hard drive, and after the wipe of the hard drive, the mouse and keyboard did work, and I was able to load Windows.
So, the question I cant answer, is why did the mouse and keyboard not work after all partitions were deleted? Why did the hard drive have to be completely wiped for them to start working? It's my understanding that when all partitions inside the hard drive are physically removed, then no program/profile/image should still be hanging around...
            Thoughts

PS: Parsec, I have tried two keyboards, and two mouse.
Keybords: 1) Razer Marauder 2) a typical generic Dell
Mouse: 1)Typical HP USB mouse 2) Logitech V-550
