  • New MB, need help with some issue :)

    Hello all

I am new here on this forum.

I am long time user of Gigabyte motherboards and video cards. The last seven computer's build have been Gigabyte. Good stuff.

My new computer (build yesterday) is giving my some issues.

    Tech data in my signature.

I want to use my two WD Red drives as storage using raid via Intel ports, however I cannot seem to get it to work. I don't get all the options show in the manual. That appears to be based on F1 bios.
My MB was delivered with F2 and I have upgraded to F5.

I follow to bios raid setup to the letter ( I think ) and then the pc start up by saying "not bootable device found"
I cannot select any boot option after changing to raid.

    Can anyone help?

Update: Also the cpu speed is always at 4.400MHz. I thought it would adjust up and down at default bios settings?

    Thank you :)

    UPDATE

When using the legacy Raid mode all works as intended, so this must mean the UEFI RAID is not working correctly.

The system almost running as expected now, except for new error.

It will only boot up every 10-15 times I press the power on button. There is no issues when only restarting the system. Only when starting up the pc from closed state.

The LED display ends on either AE or AD ?

    Can anyone help?

Is your cpu vcore on Auto or have you manually set it? If on Auto set it manually and see if the speed drops after a few minutes at idle.
Also, if your uncore is on Auto the Vring will go as high as 1.4, so if you leave uncore on Auto try setting Vring around 1.15v.
To get the vcore to drop lower than 0.7 at idle set C6/C7 to enabled and Windows power plan to Balanced. If you have Intel RST installed and configured, this also has an effect on idle vcore depending on settings.

For RAID, set in BIOS and then use Ctrl I on boot to get into RAID setup.

No boot options after changing to RAID? That implies that you have a Windows installation that was not done in RAID mode.

If you did not use RAID mode with the installation, you just can't change to RAID mode now, that is what is causing your problem.

You must either install Windows again in RAID mode, or check this link for instructions on changing to RAID mode now:

Error message occurs after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive

        Hello

I started out by installing Windows on my SSD disk. To test everything out.

My plan was to use my two WD Red disks as storage only. In Raid 1.

Will Intel Z97 chipset not allow this?

To add two disk in raid as slave disk, not Primary.

        Have I misunderstood it?

Re: New MB, need help with some issue :)

The Z97 chipset supports RAID, and it is possible to use the two WD HDDs in RAID 1. But you must either install your OS with the SATA mode set to RAID, or use the tool/method in the link I provided to fix your current Windows installation.

The problem is Windows won't load the RAID driver when it was installed in a mode other than RAID, simply by changing the SATA mode from say AHCI to RAID. The fix for that in the link I provided above will cause Windows to load the RAID driver after a reboot, after the fix is applied.

I also suggest installing the latest full Intel RAID driver from your board's download page: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1150 - GA-Z97X-Gaming G1 WIFI-BK (rev. 1.0)

That would be the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) driver 13.0.3.1001. It seems you must also install the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 driver before you install the IRST driver.

Your problem is standard RAID 101 material, happens all the time.

Re: New MB, need help with some issue :)

              Hello all

I tried to do as mentioned, however it seems to be a problem at the bios level.

I reset the bios. Erase the SSD.
I setup the bios as written in the manual and the same error as before comes.

              No bootable device found...

I have never tried to use the version of Intels raid before, however something fells completely wrong.

I set the SATA mode to RAID and try to use the UEFI RAID config.

Under bios Windows 8 features I change from Other OS to Windows 8. Windows 8 WHQL is also an option.
              Reboot the bios
Now the option Intel Rapid Storage Tech... becomes visible and I setup the two WD drives as Raid 1.
              Reboot

              And the error comes again.

This must mean it has nothing do with the SSD?

              Anyone has any idea?
