No video output from motherboard

I have stripped my motherboard down to cpu, cpu fan and ram. The fan runs, stops, runs and then continues to run, as if starting up, however it then repeats this process 1 minute later on average.
B85m pro4 motherboard. also i cannot tell, do i need multiple sticks of ram for this particular motherboard
