  • Compatibility question

OK i just bought the Fatal1ty Z97 Killer and 1 stick of G.Skill 8GB F3-12800CL10S RAM. The question is I just checked the ASrock compatibility list on their website and it shows the F3-12800CL10Q but not the F3-12800CL10S does this mean that this stick is incompatible therefore will not work? or it might work?

The reason I ask is because I am afraid my PC not posting is because RAM is not compatible or faulty. The fan on the CPU and GPU spin for several seconds and then turn off.

    Thank you for the help

Memory incompatibility normally does not cause a mother board to turn off, you usually will hear beep error codes, and see a POST code related to memory displayed, if the board has that feature.

Which memory slot are you using? For one DIMM, use slot A2 or B2.

The G.Skill part numbers you listed are incomplete, and don't clearly identify which model you have.

The G.SKILL memory in the compatibility list is, given what you wrote, F3-12800CL10Q-32GBXL. The actual model name is XL, the rest are various specs about the kit used as part of the model name.

    'Q' means a Quad channel or a four DIMM kit, 32GB total, four 8GB DIMMs. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10Q-32GBXL - Newegg.com

    'S' means a Single channel, or a single DIMM, one 8GB DIMM. G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL - Newegg.com

I found two models with the 8GB F3-12800CL10 prefix, one is XL, the other ZL. They actually seem very similar if not identical, except for the heatsink. G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10Q-32GBZL - Newegg.com

If the memory you have is a F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL, that is a model number match, just a single DIMM kit, instead of quad/four DIMM kit, so no compatibility problem. If you have the ZL model, there might be compatibility problem, but I doubt that given the symptoms you have.

Are you using the Intel graphics or a video card? Do you have the four or eight pin CPU power cable connected to the board?
