  • Advice please on what I can get from this setup - i5-2500K

    Currently have the following :

    i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz with Cooler Master Hyper 212 +
    GA-Z68XP-UD3 (rev. 1.0) Motherboard with F10 Bios
    ZALMAN Z11 Case
    Corsair GS 600 PSU
    8GB Memory (Ballistix HERE)
    2 x 1TB HDD's WD Blue and Green
    1 x DVDRW
    GTX 550 Ti Card

With the specs mentioned above I know its not a crazy setup but it does me so far...
What I want to know is can I overclock the CPU a bit more with the Stock cooler on it?
If so a how to please... noob
    Thanks

not sure how far you could push with stock cooler, maybe 3.6-3.8ghz? I depends on each chip and how much cpu v it needs

you can try with a 36x cpu multi, medium loadline calibration

or cpu voltage set to normal and +0.010v dvid
    Gigabyte z77x UP4-TH F11c Modded Bios
    Intel i7 3770k 24/[email protected] 1.38v Turbo llc +0.165v dvid multithreading enabled

Re: Advice please on what I can get from this setup - i5-2500K

I've read a bit about this and most of what I'm seeing says don't even try to overclock this CPU on the stock cooler. Regardless, you can try but you might damage it.

Your board supports the Intel Extreme Tuner app: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 (rev. 1.0). I'd use the autotune settings and monitor temps of the CPU. If your CPU gets to about 80 - 90c IMO I'd scale back. One thing to note though, if you for instance test by running a game or benchmark like 3D Mark, while overclocked, the temps on the CPU can rise very, very fast. Might even be too fast for you to stop anything.

If you really want to OC, you should consider a water cooler. They are pretty cheap now. On Newegg I've seen em for like $50.00.

But why are you OCing anyway? Gaming? What video card do you have?
