  • Gigabyte G1 z170 Gaming 7 motherboard.

I read somewhere that there was a issue installing Windows through USB on new install?

I ask because I really like this board and read when someone first installed the board they had a issue installing windows 7 & 8.1 on USB. He had to install OS on DVD? Any truth to this? I wanted this board and to install windows 10 through USB

    Thanks

Believe you can only do a fresh Windows 10 install if you have a Windows 10 with a serialnumber!

I had to do an Upgrade from my W8.1 oem version to W10.

I used Rufus to install the Iso file onto the USB Stick, but there are other programs as well.

I want to do a fresh install of wins 10 on gigabyte gaming 7. I did a fresh install of windows 10 on my EVGA z170 Stinger with USB no problem. So your saying a fresh install of Windows 10 through USB wont work on this gigabyte board?? Should I get a DVD windows 10 disc. Would that work?

No I'm only saying that you need a W10 version with a genuine serialnumber.

I had a Windows 8.1 version which only allows to upgrade to W10, but I cannot do a clean W10 install with my W8.1 serial!

So install on a usb stick should be no probelm at all, provided you have a W10 serialnumber and not an upgrade version.

Yes I'll have a real serial number. Cheers.

                    Re: Gigabyte G1 z170 Gaming 7 motherboard.

Once you upgrade to Windows 10 and it gets activated you then can do a clean install of Windows 10, on that same machine, without entering a serial number, the clean install will be automatically activated. You have to do the upgrade first and it has to get activated before you can do a clean install. When you upgrade and Windows 10 gets activated the Microsoft servers remember that machine and when you later do a clean install of Windows 10 on that same machine you just skip entering the serial number during the install process and Windows 10 will automatically activate probably within minutes depending to how busy the Microsoft servers are. I've done this 3 times in the last month. I used Microsoft's MediaCreationToolx64.exe to download Windows 10, this download allows you to upgrade or clean install. This way I only had to do one download not 3. Microsoft said it would work and it does. If you have a working USB2 port then the upgrade and/or clean install off a USB stick should work.

                      Re: Gigabyte G1 z170 Gaming 7 motherboard.

For people without original serial key for Win 10.......
Install Windows 7 and activate (permanently) with DAZ Loader ,reboot and do upgrade with Windows 10 Pro (Pro only works).
Your Win 10 Pro will be permanently activated and remembered by Microsoft.

                        Re: Gigabyte G1 z170 Gaming 7 motherboard.

For myself I had to press F9 at boot to get to the Boot menu. I had the Windows 10 pro USB in my USB 3.0 port. The Motherboard would not see that port. I switched
the Microsoft 10 USB drive to a USB 2.0 Port and then from F9 , the Boot, Menu you will see it. Then you can load it.
