  • Does my motherbord support this RAM ?

    Hi all,

Im was going to upgrade my RAM from 1x 4gb to 2x 4gb. I was looking at the memory support list and i couldnt find any RAM that matched with a i was looking. Even i've found something, they didnt sell it in my country( Holland).
Then i went to the official site of Kingston. I've choosed the motherbord im using and they show the list which RAM they support my motherbord. But on the official site of Asrock, they dont support the RAM.

My motherbord + the memory support list:
    ASRock > FM2A55M-VG3+

The memory support list of Kingston, which i can put it on my motherbord:
    Memory | Search

The RAM i would like to buy of Kingston:
    8GB Kit* (2x4GB) - DDR3 1600MHz Part Number: KVR16N11S8K2/8

My grammer is not 100% correct, but i hope you can understand what i've write :D
    Thanks for help all!

Re: Does my motherbord support this RAM ?

    Welcome to the forum.

The memory support list from the motherboard manufacturer is only a short list of memory kits that they've tested and found to be compatible with your motherboard model. The motherboard manufacturers don't have the time or resources to test all of the possible memory kits that are available.

Memory manufacturers have a more comprehensive list of compatible memory kits listed because it's in their best interest to list all of their compatible memory kits so that the customer can find a memory kit that will best fit the customer's needs and budget.

Did you notice that the Kingston compatible list says "Showing 4 out of 32 results for HyperX."?

As long as you follow ASRocks basic memory module size recommendations, you should be fine with any memory kits that Kingston or other memory manufactures list as being compatible with your specific motherboard model.

Re: Does my motherbord support this RAM ?

Choosing the best memory kit isn't quite that easy.

You said that your wanted to upgrade to a 2 x 4GB setup, so you should buy a single memory kit that comes with 2 memory modules.

The value ram kits come with 1333MHz or 1600MHz memory speeds, while the HyperX Fury kits have 1600MHz or 1866MHz memory speeds.

The HyperX kits are Kingston's higher end kits and probably cost more than the KVR kits.
Years ago in the days of the DDR2 P35 and P45 systems, the KVR kits sometimes had stability issues with overclocked systems.

I have had excellent results with my HyperX DDR2 kits in my P35 and P45 systems.

I'm not familiar with AMD systems but I think that I've seen forum posts that said that AMD DDR3 systems respond well with higher memory speeds.

I suggest that you read motherboard reviews for your system and see what better review sites recommend, as it might make a noticeable difference if you are doing doing heavy gaming or running demanding applications for music or video encoding or intensive image editing.

I have sent a PM (private message) to - wardog - to see if he has some recommendations for you.

It will help if you provide a detailed hardware list for your system using the following procedure:

Create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs portion of your forum profile at the bottom
of the profile page or in your forum signature. Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.
When you are done editing or creating your hardware list, save the settings.

          ...

I really want to have 8gb RAM, because i think my pc is too slow to do multiple things at the same time.
Also, it doesnt matter if im using 2x4gb or 8gb RAM with max 1600MHz.

Re: Does my motherbord support this RAM ?

Three months ago I did a clean reinstall of windows 7 on my system and it made a HUGE difference in my system's performance, because the older win7 was several years old and had gotten sluggish.

We don't know which cpu and operating system you are running or how old your operating system is.

I Installed an SSD in my systems quite a while ago for the operating systems and the performance improvement was phenomenal!!!

The question is will spending more money for a higher speed 8GB memory kit make much of a difference and will the higher priced memory kit be worth the price difference.

If - wardog - is going to help you he will need to know the hardware details in your system.

RIght now your approach is like calling a doctor and saying my arm is sore, what's wrong and what should I do.

You are wasting your time and ours when you don't provide the information we need.

If Kingston shows it as compatible you're good to go. No problem.
