• H97M - Gaming 3 stuck at "Entering setup

My mobo is stuck at the splash screen. When I hit del to enter the setup, it says "Entering setup...", but nothing really happens. It happened to me before and I worked it around by unpluggin all drives and plugging it back in. This time, however, it wont work.

I'm pretty sure it's a BIOS issue. This board has the dualbios feature, but I'm not really sure how to fix it. I've also tried reseting cmos.

Is there a way to use the dualbios feature in this case? Any other suggestion?

It's a Gigabyte H97M Gaming 3.

Thanks!

Re: H97M - Gaming 3 stuck at "Entering setup

Welcome to the forum.

We need detailed information about ALL OF THE HARDWARE in your system.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs
portion of your forum profile at the bottom of the profile page or in your forum signature.
Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.
When you are done editing or creating your hardware list, save the settings.

Your problem might be caused by one or more connected hardware devices and it is important to include part numbers or model numbers for all connected hardware.

It is important to make sure that you follow the required clear bios procedure where the power supply cable is firsrt unplugged from the back of the power supply or from the wall outlet. You might need to remove the motherboard battery and keep the CLR_CMOS pins connected for 10 - 20 minutes or possibly overnight.

The first thing you need to do is to try to clear the bios by following the procedure in page 17 of your motherboard user manual. Sometimes the bios needs to be cleared for up to 10 - 20 minutes and it might need to be cleared for 1 - 2 hours or possibly for 12 - 24 hours.

My approach is to try to get into the bios with a minimal hardware setup using only one memory module, keyboard, and mouse. If your cpu has integrated graphics, try booting without a separate video card. If you have a usb keyboard, try booting with a PS/2 keyboard. In one case the owner couldn't boot because the front panel usb 3.0 cable was improperly connected to the motherboard. It's also possible that the problem is caused by a faulty front panel cable or switch. A faulty external usb hub can also cause boot problems.

As a last resort, you might need to remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a large book or cardboard box beside your computer case.

Before removing or installing hardware, always unplug the power supply's power cable from the back of the power supply or the wall outlet.

Once you can get into the bios, check to see which bios version you are using. GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1150 - GA-H97M-Gaming 3 (rev. 1.0) shows that the latest bios version is F5 (2015-09-20). With bios version (F4 or newer) it says "This BIOS prohibits updating to earlier version BIOS". There is a link near the upper right corner of the bios list that has instructions for flashing the bios: GIGABYTE How to Reflash Motherboard BIOS

After you can boot into the bios, reconnect one piece of hardware at a time and see if you can still boot into the bios.

If the above steps don't solve your problem, a web search using: how to force backup bios provides information that might help.

Re: H97M - Gaming 3 stuck at "Entering setup

HI!

Thanks for the reply!

I've updated my profile with my computer specs.

I found out these two methods. I'm trying it, but nothing really happens, the computer wont go further the American Megatrends screen. When I hit the del key, however, it says "Entering setup..."
Code:
Method #1:
1. Shut your PC down (if you're reading this guide, than your PC isn't working anyways)
2. Hold the power button until the PC starts and shuts down again
3. Press the power button again, your backup BIOS should kick in now and should re-flash the main BIOS if there's anything wrong with it.

Method #2:
1. Shut your PC down
2. Hold the power AND the reset button for about 10 sec, than release.
3. Backup BIOS should kick in anytime soon now.

I think that most of the forcing the backup bios techniques depend on getting the timing "just right".

A faulty or failing power supply (even a brand new one) can cause posting/booting problems.
Can you borrow a different power supply to test with?

What is the model number of your 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance memory?
Did your memory come as a single kit with both 8GB modules? Did you buy each 8GB module separately?
Is the memory kit's part number on Gigabytes memory QVL (qualified vendor list)?
Does the Corsair memory finder list your memory kit as being compatible with your H97M GAMING 3 motherboard?

Did you make any recent hardware changes before the posting problems started?

When I put together a new or used system, I always follow these steps:
1. test that the power supply works
2. install the cpu, heatsink and cpu cooling fan(s)
3. install only one memory module in the recommended memory slot
4. connect a PS/2 keyboard to the rear I/O panel
5. connect a usb mouse to a usb 2.0 rear panel connector (if needed)
6. connect a video card (if needed)
7. connect the monitor with a video cable where the cable is known to be working
8. set up the partially assembled motherboard on a cardboard box next to the computer case or the power supply
9. I manually jumper the motherboard's power and reset pins and don't connect the appropriate front panel wires until I know that my system boots into the bios

Trying to boot using the main bios with a minimal hardware setup and outside of the computer case is the best way to troubleshoot and fix your system.

Re: H97M - Gaming 3 stuck at "Entering setup

Tried all of the above. Could you be more specific regarding the correct timing to trigger the dualbios feature?

Found out that 2 of the memory slots aren't working (when I plug in memory in any of these two slots, the pc keeps rebooting).

I'm also too afraid to short the bios chip's pins. Hehehe

Re: H97M - Gaming 3 stuck at "Entering setup

Some of the procedures that I've seen in past required you to almost simultaneously coordinate pressing/holding/releasing the power supply's on/off power switch (at the back of the power supply) while pressing/releasing the front panel's on/off power switch.

Using the description in the motherboard user manual, what are the names of each of the bad memory slots.
Are there any signs of damage to any of the motherboard's memory slots or their connectors?

Go to GIGABYTE - Support - Warranty Info to check out how long the motherboard warranty is in Brazil.

You can use a hard drive jumper block to safely connect both of the CLR_CMOS pins.

I'm using a 3-wire cooling fan extension cable with two of the wires plugged into my CLR_CMOS pins.
The other end of this cable is routed out the back of my computer case so that I can quickly and easily connect/short two of these wires to clear my CMOS when necessary.

I don't like the exposed 3-pin connector on the right because you don't want to accidentally connect the exposed pins with your computer case.
