  • Q9550 P5Q Pro overclock

    Hello o/

Im trying to get stabile over 3.7 ghz -436 FSB with mine

Asus P5Q Pro - latest modded bios by Ket 2102
    Q9550 e0
    Cooler master V8
    LC power GP2 6550 psu
    7gb ram - 2x2 corsair twinx 800, 1x2gb kingston value ram 800, 1x1gb kingmax 800

Memory can pass 960 mhz 2.0v in bios, with 5-5-5-15-55 preformance level 10. 10 pass of memtest and windows memory diagnostic tools

3.7 is rock stabile with this bios settings

    Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
    CPU Ratio Setting : 8.5
    FSB Frequency : 436
    PCIE Frequency: 101
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 333
    DRAM Frequency: 850
DRAM Timing Control: manual 5-5-5-15-55. rest auto

    DRAM Static Read Control: manual
    Dram Read Training :manual
    MEM OC Charger : enabled
    Ai Clock Twister :lightest
Ai Transaction Booster : 10 <-----lowest possible stabile, 11,12,13 no help

    CPU Voltage :1.275
    CPU GTL Reference: Auto
    CPU PLL Voltage : 1.54
    FSB Termination Voltage:1.26
DRAM Voltage : 1.94 <----- raising up to 2.1 no help, this board overvolt memory too
    NB Voltage : 1.26
    SB Voltage: 1.10
    PCIE Sata Voltage:1.50

    Load Line Calabration : Enabled
    CPU Sread Spectrum : Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum : Disabled
    CPU Clock Skew: Normal
    MB Clock Skew: Normal

    Cpu margin enhancement preformance mode

I think is not possible to get 4.0 ghz stabile on this board because lack of fine GTL CPU and NB like Deluxe and premium motherboard.

    Anyone have similar setup?

edit: im stabile now at 3.8 448 FSB with upping vcore to 1.300v in bios

    Re: Q9550 P5Q Pro overclock

Sorry for double post, my edit button does not work

    anyways,

I got 456 FSB stabile, for 3876 mhz

    I put
    vcore 1.36v
    PLL 1.54v
    CPU GTL -auto
    VTT to 1.26v
    NB 1.26v
    RAM-1.26v
    SB-1.10v
    PCI-e 1.50v

    Load Line Calabration : Enabled
    CPU Sread Spectrum : Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum : Disabled
    CPU Clock Skew: Normal
    NB Clock Skew: Normal

Ah if i can squeeze that 15 mhz FSB more i would be supper happy

Upping vcore from 1.30 to 1.36 in bios make things happened

When i increase my FSB to 471 for 4.0 Ghz, i fail large data set OCCT after 2 min.

NB up? or try increase vtt +1 step up?

Temps are in mid 70+ btw on one core, i think Cooler Master V8 is decent cooler and should handle 180w, but temp is not reason of failure in occt because i uncheck temp warrnings for each core, max is 73 on core 1.

      Re: Q9550 P5Q Pro overclock

You are mixing a lot of different RAM in what mode it operates (check CPU-Z memory tab)
You can try, +0.02 on NM, or playing I=with COU GTL ref, also clock skews.

        yes i have

        2 x 2gb corsair twinX
        1 x 2gb kingston
        1x 1gb kingmax

all rated 800 mhz, Memtest86 stabile 10 pass, and windows memory diagnostic tool extended mode stabile. Latencies is 5-5-5-15-55. i also try loose them on 6-6-6-18-60, performance level is on 10, did try 11-12-13, no luck

they are mixed modules but have no errors on them, did test them up to 965 mhz on CL5, no errors.

          Re: Q9550 P5Q Pro overclock

Lets just say that competition motherboards would probably never even boot with this RAM mix.
What is performance level, Static Read Control?
Lets see screens of CPU-Z Memory tab, and MemSet

            CPU-Z VALIDATOR

I have try loosing timings, subtimings, and preformance level up to 13 no differences

6-6-6-18-60, 5-5-5-55, adding voltage to ram, NB....

2 versions of Memtest and windows memory diagnostic tool pass 10+ times without problem up to 960+ mhz on ram.

Only thing i didnt try yet is with only 2 sticks OC. Maby 4 sticks is too much on NB for that fsb

EDIT: and i pass FSB 456 for 3.9, but i need 1.36 vcore, and 1.3 vtt,

try to put multi on 6x, no luck what ever voltage i set

              Re: Q9550 P5Q Pro overclock

VTT and vcore go hand in hand, if you increase VTT you MUST increase vcore to keep the AGTL+ effective, the only way around it to some extent is the GTL references.
Is there no CPU GTL reference on this board?
Asus P5Q Pro - Overclocking Guide

Does not look like the amount of RAM is the problem here but you can try and leave only the 2x2GB this should be no problem for the chipset at all.

Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet
                I have this CPU GTL REFERENCE - Auto, 0.65x, 0.63x, 0,61x

I know there is some formula that vtt and GTL should be 0.800-1.000 range. My board doesent have like deluxe or P5Q-e CPU GTL 0/2 !/3 and NB GTL. So im stuck on those 3 options for both 4 core on same time without fine tuning.

I can play with clock skews and that GTL, but so far no luck. Max stabile i pull out from prime blend or occt large data set is 456 FSB x 8.5 = 3,876 mhz. Wanna try reach 4.0 ghz stabile

From 3.6 to 3.8 need big jump in voltages too, but nothing over specs

                vcore 1.34v

                vtt 1.24v

                PLL 1.54v

                NB 1.26v

                RAM 1.92v

                SB 1.1v

                PCI-e 1.5v

                GTL auto

                From 3.8 to 3.875

                vcore 1.38v

                vtt 1.24v

                PLL 1.54v

                ram 1.92v

                NB 1.26v

                GTL auto

..same rest and that pass blending, but when i try 471 FSB for 4.0 cant get it stabile. i try GTL 0.65x, 0.63x, and 0.61x with that and i try up pll and vtt, but core fails randomly upping NB also didnt help. I think is reachable, cooling is good

                  Re: Q9550 P5Q Pro overclock

There is no complicated formulas, the reference is just percentage of VTT and the ASUS representation is superior to GYGABAYTE's board where it is an absolute value that change with VTT and difficult to keep track of.
Read about GTL references here Global

On 465 FSB core 2 fail after 15 min, will try to raise vcore up one notch

Max stabile i got is 460 fsb 2h prime blend

i needed 1.35 vcore in bios, rest settings is same. For 465 and 471 FSB i try lot of things including vcore to 1.40, vtt to 1.38, pll to 1.60, cpu clock skew 100ps, GTL reference 0.65x, 0.63x, 0.61x lol....no help
