  • How does correct CPU install bend pins?

Got a replacement Z97-UD5H-BK board under warranty this past week. Couldn't tell if it was new, a return or refurb. After setting up, it started and some fans ran (cpu, gpu and a case fan - another started then stoped), but computer wouldn't post, i.e., get to BIOS. Those are often symptoms of cpu problems, so I tore it apart and found that the i7-4790K cpu was placed correctly but there were a few bent pins on the base, one or two perhaps beyond repair (going to have another pair of eyes look at it). I've done several builds over the years but not seen this before. How does a correct install carefully done end up with bent pins? Thanks,
