  • AGP 8x problem

I have a 9800 pro 128mb video card and a mother board that can support AGP 8x but I only see 4x and no 8x? I don't know what to do. My motherboard is a gigabyte GA-8PE800 and it worked before but I installed XP again and now it is gone? Also I have the brand new ATI drivers as of 1-28-04. Please help.

I'd go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers (only AGP and BIOS should be required, but getting all of them couldn't hurt). You might also need to enable AGP 8x in your BIOS settings.

The GA-8PE800 is based on the i845PE chipset so it doesn't support 8x AGP only 4x which is why 8x isn't displayed as it can't use it.

Oops, didn't see the motherboard model in the original post...that would have saved some time.

You're really not missing much by having only 4x enabled. At the most, you'll see an increase of 1-2%.
