I truly think you would be hard pressed to find anything more functional than a Dremel tool.
I know that other sources such as Black&Decker have similar tools, but I am not sure on the availability or interchangability of the bits for those.
A basic kit for any of those should get you going nicely.
Primarily, you need the cutting wheels and grinding attatchments for blowholes, windows etc.
For drilling holes to mount fans and such a cheap power hand-drill should be all that is needed.
Well, that and a bit of measuring, planning, and a steady hand:D
Good luck with it - sounds like you plan to have some fun!
The reason a diamond shines so brightly is because it has many facets which reflect light.
I have like 4 case fans and a hard drive fan that I want to modifiy into my case. I have a Midtower case.
I am not looking at making this case fancy, but I want to overclock some more. So I need to cool this guy down some more. I need more speed out of my CPU.
Do I need to use any type of molding around the fans? Can you recommend something?
Molding I guess would be a personal preference.
If your looking for a good seal or something, a bit of silicone will handle that. If appearance is the concern, then that is best left to your tastes. What is going to work best for you ---- you are limited only by your imagination when it comes to modding.
Keep your eyes open and your project in mind, you never know what you may find to fit the bill.
I think some guards may be nice for the fans to keep foreign objects out of the case.

If you want a real cheap modding tool, you can get a hand nibbler for about $25 AU...sure it's alittle slow, and can't cut plastic, but it offers excellant controll and for $25..well, what can i say. :D
And as for fan molding, you can get it from http://www.pccasegear.com.au for about $3.50/metre :thumb: ...it adds a really pro look to you case.
That's a bad link dude. I bought a rotary tool tonight. I need a better blade though. Thanks for your help. I think I might just buy that case in the other posting. It would be alot easier!!! O'well.
What bit are you using?
I find the cut-off wheels do a great job making holes. Be sure to use some goggles, if you let the wheel jump a bit or get it crooked they tend to fly apart. But they are quite inexpensive and do a fast job of cutting. After that a grinding bit will finish what little is left and smooth rough edges.

I bought a kit bascailly. I need to get some better cutting blades. I'll look at the cutting wheels. I am having a little trouble cutting with what I have right now.
Those flat abrasive discs don't look impressive, but they'll cut a case in no time at all with a bit of practice. (Metal ones anyway, I haven't tried aluminum.)
Have to hold the tool very steady, and wear eye protection. These rascals cut, but they won't take any twisting. You can get a pack of 20 or so for a few dollars, so if you break one no big deal.
Be patient, and don't force the bit too much through the material. Once your through, you just feed it steady.
Actually, there is very little in the way of burrs and such when you get done, I usually drag a fine file across the edges and done:thumb:

This will be alot of fun. I am modifiing a Hard drive fan into my case. This is a 3 fan combo like unit. I would like to put a fan on the backside of my motherboard.
So I just need to take my time cutting though the metal huh? My budget is low so I had to buy a cheaper non-name brand dremel tool. It's having a hard time cutting though the metal. I am cutting 3 small circles to go with my HD cooler.
