So this Radeon 9000 is being marketed as a DX9 card that is slower than the 8500 but faster than the 7500. Good, ill buy one as soon as they come under $250Aud

Oh well it really doesnt matter to me anyhow, i cant se any sense in spending over $200 on a video card, and the only game i have on my PC uses DX7

It's supposed to be the cheapest card with hardware DX8 support - but it is slower than the 8500/8500LE, which is supposed to be discontinued.

If I was in the market for a cheap DX8 card - I'd be watching 8500LE prices very carefully & looking for some deals

Video card prices are pretty wierd here. the 8500LE costs $330, and the Ti200 costs $270. If the Radeon 9000 sells for about $250 or under i would seriously consider buying it, only because i prefer ATI cards to nVidia

lol yea i guess nvidia versus ATI is liek amd verse INTEL...i'd really like to see ATI release something better than nvidia...if ATI release something substantially better than the ti4600 and nvidia don't come up with a better solution, i won't hesitate to switch to ATI

              long live AMD:)

I think we must have better prices on ATi products around here - being so closr to ATi HQ - I can pick up a 64MB 8500LE for under $150cdn ($95US) - but GF3Ti200's have never really gone below $200cdn

I did manage to pick up a Powercolor GF4Ti4200 128Mb for $265cdn ( - that's about $170) with no tax - not a bad OC'er either - it does 275/540 right out of the box in the hottest month of the year. :D :thumb: :D

I was just checking on the 8500's today actually. (They actually will run in a AGP 1.0 Slot).

                    www.newegg.com

The site above has the 8500LE with 64 megs of DDR, clocked at 250mhz (bulk pack) for only $94 (US bucks that is).

From what I have heard about what this card can do, this is an insanely good price. Anyone out there that has one, do you recommend it?

if you can, find out the manufacturer & the exact model & clock speeds if possible. Most LE's have clock speeds in the 230-250 range - however a few companies have produced 183MHz clocked version, you don't want to get stuck with one of those.

a large portion of LE's will easily OC to retail speeds (275MHz) and above - especially if you do the pencil voltage mod - some LE's are purposely underpowered to prevent them from performing as well as retails.
there are even custom bios's available so you can permanently set your clocks to what ever you want.

Just make sure you get recent drivers - the early ones were real POS, especially for XP.

I would take a Radeon8500 over any GF3 - I recently replaced mine with a GF4Ti4200 in my main box - my 3dmark score only increased by about 3%, but I suspect a fresh windows install and a little tweaking will help that.

lol actually i;m not surprised u only got a 3% performance increase...bcos the GF4's are being badly bottlenecked by cpu's
