an x800 (anytype) and F.E.A.R. benchmarks

i was arguing with a friend and he told me that another friend runs FEAR and gets good fps with an ati x800 card (iono maker) agp with maybe maxed settings......i said impossible......can anyone explain or clarify? i highly doubt that it could run 1600x1200 max anti aliasing and anisotrophic filter.......

put this into context: my unlocked and overclocked X800GTO2 runs FEAR at an exceptable framerate 1024x768 2xAA highAF full detail. by acceptable i mean it slows down now and then; i think ive become accustomed to low framerates lol so this is opinionated. My GTO2 is about the same performance-wize as a X800XL and anything slower like GT, GTO, will not cut FEAR very well.

therefore i think your friend may be exaggerating.

Did he claim 1600x1200 resolution?

Define "maxed." Its possible he enabled a setting that actually reduces quality, thinking that it was the other way around. Furthermore, no card from that generation can handle FEAR with soft shadows. So, at the very least that was off. My 6800GT could handle almost everything maxed at 1280x960, so I wouldn't be too surprised if at 1024x768 or even 1280x960 if he could handle most settings maxed.

A 7600GT is what you're looking for, though it wouldn't be very cost-effective to SLI it IMO. It's not 256-bit, either, but it's faster than just about anything else in that price range.

yeah, the 7600GT is an amazingly fast card for the price. IT is basically the only card in the sub $200 price range worth looking at. SLI is OK if you run high res monitors, other than that it is kinda a waste. You'd be better off to just get an X1900 GT for the same cost as 2 7600GT's.

x850,s 16 pipe cards ,not x800 12 pipe cards.....i got 2 x850xt,s for $140 each as beater cards that blew me away in performance for second cards.i can compare them to my old 6800ultra.my second opty 146,2 gigs ocz plat,single 74 gig raptor has 1 of the x850xt,s in it and plays bf2 at 1800x1440 and it runs amazing i must admit for amere $140.my freinds had x800 series cards that would not run that good past 1024x768 with settings hi.6800gts actually performed better for me during the x800 release dates when my other buddies were using them.

in the game, it says that you cannot enable soft shadows with antialiasing, is this just limited to the graphics card that it detects? so a newer card would allow this?

Ya, my ATi radeon 9250 has absolutely no SS because it is so old.

I could have sworn I did it myself, and there shouldn't be anything preventing you from doing so. The only graphical technology I'm aware of that prevents AA from being enabled is High Dynamic Range, and even that's only in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I'd assume that the game was programmed to think your video card can't handle both, which is true.
