The mobo is good for amd.
I have looked through many system setups for my first computer that I will build myself. Anyways there are 2 ..so how are these?
1st one (AMD):
Case:

DVD Drive:

Floppy Disk Drive:
http://gameve.com/store/gameve_viewi...?idproduct=215
Video Card:

2nd one (Intel):
Case:
http://gameve.com/store/gameve_viewi...idproduct=1291
Motherboard:
http://gameve.com/store/gameve_viewi...idproduct=1009
Processor:
http://gameve.com/store/gameve_viewi...idproduct=1086
Memory:

The sound card, graphics card, dvd drive, and floppy disk drive are the same on both systems.
Case: Aspire X-Alien Silver
Power Supply: Antec True430
Motherboard: Abit IC7-MAX3
Processor: Pentium 4 2.6c
Memory: Corsair XMS PC3500 1024MB(512x2)
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Speakers: Logitech Z-680
The mobo is good for amd.
CPU: Opteron 165 @ 311x9 - 2817.8 mhz - 1.47v
Mobo: Abit KN8-SLI
RAM: 2x512 Crucial Ballistic Tracers500 @ 202 mhz 2-2-2-5 T1
GFX: Asus EAX1950pro @ 648/1408
PSU: Thermaltake 500w
SC: Audigy 2 zs
LCD: 22' Samsung 225bw
Speakers: Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra
Mouse: Logitech G5
forget about the soundcard, if you get the A7N8X Deluxe it has Soundstorm, which is far better than what you have put down and the regular Nforce2 APU's. it has proper 5.1 support and is not far off a Audigy2 overall.

Just a couple of tips:
I'll never buy an OEM processor again! I have a dead Athlon XP 2200+ that is only 4 months old....it died, and because an OEM processor typically only carries a 30 day warranty....I'm stuck with it. Boxed CPU's come with a fan but they're usually only a few bucks more, and the warranty is a couple years. (BTW....I didn't see a HS/F in your list?)
Second, if you're planning to OC....or even if you're not....faster RAM is only a few bucks more. It's a good investment as the little extra you'll spend would be more than lost if you sold the used RAM for faster stuff. :2cents:

I need faster memory? Isn't PC3200 enough? btw, what's OEM?
Case: Aspire X-Alien Silver
Power Supply: Antec True430
Motherboard: Abit IC7-MAX3
Processor: Pentium 4 2.6c
Memory: Corsair XMS PC3500 1024MB(512x2)
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

PC3200 IS enough....if you're gonna leave it stock. I was thinking for OC and future-proofing, it's not much more for faster RAM.
OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer. It's a processor for system builders that add their own heatsinks, and carry the warranty themselves. A boxed processor is warrantied by the manufacturer....Intel or AMD, and "must" be used with the stock heatsink. If you ever need to warranty it, there's numbers on the HS/F that they'll want to have as proof it was a boxed processor. Hope that helps :)

if ya want 2 oc it......get pc-3500 or 3200.....that should be ok. also.....get a barton xp 2500+....you can overclock it really good + it has 512kb L2 cache.....
My rig:
amd athlon xp 2500+ barton core @2.16GHZ (180mhz 12x)
cooler master x-dream(with cooler master high performance thermal compound)
mobo: asus a7n8x deluxe
512mb of ddr pc-3200
radeon 9500 pro
pctv tuner card
antec 5.1 speakers
antec case with 5 80mm fans
430 watts psu
15" monitor @ 1024*768 32bit 70hz
48x cd-rom, 52x24x52x cdrw
2x 160gbs 7200 rpm 8mb buffer maxtor hdd
win xp pro with sp1a
all drivers updated
"They say that when you run a Microsoft CD backwards you can hear demonic voices... But that's nothing - When you run it forwards it installs Windows"
IMHO: Dont build a new comp now (both of those are 32-bit processors), wait a couple of months and build yourself a system based on 64-bit processing. Otherwise, you're gonna be the kid that buys the scooter and then a week later everyone has moved on to bikes :( . : peace2: Mista K6
Modified Dell 8200 Case:

-P4 Williamette Socket 478, 1.9GHz

-7200 RPM Maxtors: 60GB (2MB) on mobo and 160GB (8MB) on ATA/133 PCI Card
-Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 Speaker System on an Audigy 2
-Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Rock on : peace2: , MiStA K6
Didn't think about that, but good point  But it might be expensive...That kid sounds like me...scooter..then bikes

I'm not quite sure on getting an AMD chip altogether yet... It's cheaper..but does a Athlon XP 2500 Barton perform better than a 2.4c P4?
