gtx 280 for $220?

Ok the number I need is in the sticker circled below.
The number will not be preceded by NVLBL and will be formatted P/N xxx-xx-xxxx-xx at least that what you will find on a GTX 280
usually letters and numbers combined.
I searched everything you listed and came up empty.
Who is the manufacturer?

I must admit it sure looks like a Quadro
You may have found yourself one heck of a deal $220 for a $3000.00++ card. If your are running XP 32 bit it would explain the reason all the memory is not showing up, hence worthless without a OS upgrade.
Now one has to ask why would somebody sell it so cheaply.
If they didn't know what they had, that would explain it. I would think something like that doesn't just fall into your lap. Those were just released in Nov 08. So the chances of the original purchaser forgetting what he/she paid for it is slim to non. Even my short term memory is not that bad.
I'd use some caution here if it is a Quadro FX5800 somebody may be looking for it.
Sorry to be so presumptuous here and I certainly hope what I'm thinking is wrong but, it's safe return may be worth a 280 for real.

Thanks again for helping so much owcraftsman - seems like a lot of effort you're putting into helping me figure out what I have.

As for the part you circled - there aren't any stickers or numbers there except for random codes on the exposed pcb itself..

There aren't any other stickers or numbers on the exterior of the card's case, so maybe I'll open it up to see the inside.

As you can tell, I don't have a proper camera, so I'll try to get pics once it's open, but you prob won't be able to see any of the actual numbers/text.

Running Vista 32 bit ultimate, so that might be the reason why the 4gigs registers in the bios on post but not after loading windows.

EDIT:

The person I bought it from was a kid (in high school I'm guessing) from San Jose who sold it to me apparently because his parents were forcing him to part out his computer because of poor grades.. a little sketchy, but I didn't really care.. 220 for the gtx 280 was good enough for me..

I certainly hope they're not stolen.. he arranged the meet in typical drug deal fashion in front of an elementary school, so it's not out of the question..

What's more is that the kid said he had another one for sale - I tried emailing him about picking that one up too, but no response so far..

Back in Davis now, so can't really pick it up anyways, so whatever.. :P

Hmm.. I'm having trouble getting the cooler off - took out all the screws on the back and sides, but neither the rear or front covers will budge.. gonna have a friend over for some gaming later, so I think taking the card apart will have to wait..

..gaming on a potentially $3000 video card.. who knew..

Hey, i got that same card just a few days ago i tough it was a gtx 280 like it said in the ad i bought it from craigslist in san jose ca. i'm confused in the nvidia control panel it says its a quadro fx 5800 4gb and on the video card it says its a telsa video card???? any ways i'm going to sell it and buy my gtx 280 that i wanted. where can i sell it or who wants it.

First I'd say it's imperative to know exactly what you have either mb model # or serial #. Don't trust software to tell you what it is.
Did you install the drivers manually or let windows install?
Have you downloaded GPUz to see maybe what it says the card is? GPUz HERE

Ebay maybe your best bet if it is a Quadro, anyone who does graphics design or Video Production or Auto Cad Professionally will find these type cards essential therefore increasing there value to a perspective buyer. If your not using it for one of those things I assume it's way overkill for your standard gaming desktop needs.

Hey yes i did a complete reformat of my computer, i installed vista then downloaded the quadro fx5800 drivers manually from Nvidia.com i already installed gpu-z and it says its a quadro fx5800 here is a screen shot of my desktop of various results

Look they are selling a quadro in craigslist right now in south san jose.

Selling 5800 quadro fx cheap!!!
