Gamepad suggestions for PC?

I need a new gamepad badly, the left analogue stick on my current Logitech Chillstream is worn down so badly it rips of the skin of the thumb when used (thanks to 4 AC games,lol). The only game I use it for are the Assassin's Creed series (maybe Prototype 2 when it comes and maybe Alan Wake if I want to play it again)

I wanted to get a new Chillstream as it simply love the concept, but it has been out of production for so long that it can't be found or at prices you wouldn't believe.

I've never been the big gamepad enthusiast, but there are a couple games (the above mentioned) that simply are played better with it then my favourite combo that is mouse+kb.

Anyone know any good ones they can suggest? I would prefer a xbox compatible (as there aint any dedicated PC pads anymore afaik) from the layout, as its what the games setup shows (PS would confuse as different symbols)

you can use an xbox controller in a pc,i have the logitech rumblepad 2,works fine but on some you have to set it up,assign buttons ect,the xbox should support all games out of the box

Also the PS3 controller works with the PC also. I dont know if it will work in all games but it does work with the PC as I have tried it.

use xpadder for the ps3 controller to remap it for certain games

Thank you very much for the feedback. I was aware that both types work for PC. I did consider the PS3 pad as it has some of the best analog trigger buttons I've tried. But I'm a very casual gamer, and do forget where what button is .. and when it on screen says press A/B/X/Y and my pad has symbols instead .. I get confused .. hehe :)
So I'll think I'll get a Xbox compatible

I was looking more for specific brands/controllers that people had that they could recommend .. then again I am aware that very few PC users use a gamepads these days... or ever.

Think I'm going to go with the Logitech F510 pad. I was shortly considering the F710 but I miss the option to charge it via cable and use wireless when not connected (like the PS3 pad does).

And the 510 is nicely priced with 25euro, but going to wait 'till I have more to order (plus 1/3 price just for postage). Thanks again for the feedback.

I actually changed my mind, and have now found the perfect pad for me. It hasn't fully hit the market yet (15 august afaik), but should be in time for AC3 :)

The MadCatz MLG Pro Xbox360 controller, eTeknix has a great review on it, and I got it recommended from a couple other reviewers since then. So, that's what I'll get :)
