Anyone that uses Norton's deserves the hell they get put through when it fubars their system. This is the main problem with not knowing anything about PC's, then blaming the PC for the problems. If people did basic research on PC's and what can go wrong before owning one, their life would be so much easier.

THe arguement for home built VS pre built is old. If you don't know what you're doing, Dell is your friend. If you want a better PC for the money, learn how to build one. As for surfing, a firewall only prevents stuff going out, and most AV's won't prevent a virus from being downloaded and installed, they just remove them for the most part. Clicking on every flash link on the web to win a free whatever is where all your virus' are. JAVA is the virus superhighway. If JAVA was erased from the face of the internet, I bet easily 50% of all know virus' would lose their easiest path into a PC.

Didn't you need one to register here?

The point is, there are more ways to get into your computer than downloads.

There are emails, viruses, attachments, DOCUMENTS, all those holes in MS that keep getting found and cloged up.

You are very right, but 99% of those exploits still require a moron behind the keyboard to let them in and work. If it wasn't for user error, virus' would not be able to self install. Virus programmers feed on the weaknesses of people to exploit so that they can use that to exploit their PC.
