Upgrade XP to Win 7

Hello,
I'm trying to find out if i am able to upgrade my old comp that runs XP to Win 7 via a USB stick as boot drive. The thing i can't figure out is, am able to use my Win 7 key that came with my new computer (64 bit) to validate my update on my old computer (32 bit)? If any one can tell me if this will work or not that would be great.

You can not upgrade from XP to win7, you have to upgrade to vista first then you can upgrade to 7. Its advised just to back up all your data and do a clean install.

What's the best way to do a clean install then? With a new disk and a new product key?

do you have a new win7 disc? or you wanna update the current xp to win7?

if you have a win7 dvd then back up your xp files movies/music/pictures ect then formatt the hdd and do a clean install of win 7? is that what you want to do?

You dont need a new disk, if you are referring to the win7 install media. You just need to purchase another cd-key which I dont think you can get just a license unless its for Win7 Enterprise.

Yeah i'm wanting to get my old computer running Win 7. I was hopeing to be able to do it using the cd-key i have for my windows licence on my newer computer. I don't have a Win 7 dvd but i managed to get the cd-key/product code from the registry using a key finder program. So what i need to do, i though, was to download a Win 7 home premium 32 bit ISO onto a USB drive, boot from the USB with Win 7 ISO on it and then format the HDD while installing Win 7. Am i talking pishposh here? I've been googling all day to try and find out if it can be done but there are so many people saying different things and as my old computer is 32 bit compatible and my new one is 64 bit that was throwing me off too as to weather my key code would work with both 64 and 32 bit OS. I'm not cut out for this computer jargon.

You cannot activate the same key on 2 computers at the same time.

There are ways to get around having to purchase another copy of win7 but cant be discussed here. You can look around on torrent sites and google.

But as said 1 cd-key per computer unless its win7 Enterprise which can be used and more then one system.

You stand a good chance getting your key blacklisted if you use it to activate two computers at the same time. Once that happens then you have no key.

I was under the impression that if you bought a copy of any kind of windows home version you had the right to install it on up to three of your own computers no?
