Is there a device that will permit me to connect my USB printer to an older computer w/a parallel port.

Yea, a usb 2.0 pci card would do the trick. Or if the mobo has place to plug in a usb, then a simple expander that fits in an empty lower rear slot. The later would probably be usb 1.1
I would go with the 2.0 for universal operation that would be up to date. Although usb 1.1 pci cards are way cheaper now that 2.0 is out.

What OS does your older computer use? USB wasn't supported (even with good drivers) until Win98SE and later.

I've not used those before... what are speeds like in comparison to both USB and standard Parallel?

Must be slower because USB runs at 48mhz and PCI 33mhz. Not to mention USB moving 412mbps....

I understand the physical speed limitations, but I wanted to know how it works on a legacy system compared to a stand-alone setup without the converter interface.
