Default Views on specs for new PC

    hi there,

this is the second time i'm writing this because i thoguht i clicked submit, and i obviously didn't :@ so, i'll just list the components of what i'm thinking of and if you guys could give me your dieas on it, alterations and where i'm spending to much/too little that would be fantastic. i live in manchester in the UK, so my main PC hardware shops are scan (www.scan.co.uk), aria (www.aria.co.uk) and micro direct (www.microdirect.co.uk). these are the shops i'll be using unless someone recomends a better one. going to be using my PC for gaming and watching films and stuff, but primarily gaming. i'm trying to keep my budget under 800 but i can go a little over but trying not to :)

    heres the specs

p.s. not sure if i need an IDE cable or thing anythin like that, that long sicne i built a PC can't remember what comes with and what doesn't... lol. and should i buy vista or go with a 64bit version of XP (for there are some compatability problemns with a few games and vista), and if vista spend abit extra and go for ultimate or stick with premium...

btw, sry about the grammer and spelling, abit pissed that i had to type it out again.

I would suggest faster memory and to stay away from vista. May I suggest checking prices on pricewatch.com, or looking at jlxperts.com.

The idea behind him showing UK links/prices is because that's where he comes from and this isn't the 1st that you've replied by suggesting USA sites to overseas people so please stop as they are useless suggestions to make.

Thumbs down Re: Views on specs for new PC

i've just built a new rig off scan, total of 860 inc vat & delivery to northern ireland

    e4300 Core 2 duo
    4*1gb corsair XMS2 DHX cas5 pc6400
    gigabyte GA-P35c-DS3R mobo
    HIS x1950 pro 512mb
    300gb seagate 16mb cache sata
    80gb maxtor sata
arctic freezer 7 pro cpu cooler
    19" widescreen i-inc lcd
    antec 900 case

plus a few wee extras, tv card, 2 dvd rw drives, fan controller etc.

the oc'ing capabilities of the cpu are outstanding, but even at stock this scored 10055 in 3dmark05.

compared to the above list, i reckon this is a much stronger machine, and similar money. the case is a bit extravagant, but it was a star buy i have to admit.

i'd change one thing though, swap the mobo for an asus p5k p35 chipset, the gigabyte bios is an absolute pig to use.

probably should have saved on the case and splashed out a bit on the ram, but theres hindsight for you...
