    Default Power supply dead?

I removed an Antec power supply from an old case and I was going to sell it or give it to someone. I plugged it in and the fan didn't run and there was no voltage in the 12v harnesses. It operated fine when the pc was last used, and I got to wondering if the main fitting needs to be plugged in to a MB before the power supply will operate. I don't have a loose MB here to try it.
Should it create voltage and run the fan with no devices plugged in?

A PSU will not operate without being plugged into a board (or tester). Some of the pros here may be able to tell you which leads to short out in order to test it.
    Antec 900 case (4 120mm and 1 200mm lighted fans + UFO flashing light set + 2 12" and 1 6" Mutant Mods meteor lights) - Aerogate ll thermal controller - Asus M2N-e SLI - AMD 64 X2 AM2 6400+ - Corsair TX650 PSU - MSI 450GTS Cyclone OC - 2 X 2GB Patriot Extreme Performance PC2 6400 RAM - SATA 320 GB Seagate HD, SATA 300GB Maxtor HD and IDE 80 GB Samsung HD - Floppy Drive/Card Reader Combo - LG SuperMulti Lightscribe 18x DVD RW - Plextor PX-716A DVD r/rw - Windows 7 Home Premium 64

You'll need a piece of wire to short the green wire (good power signal) on the mainboard plug with one of the black wires on the same plug.

    Wonderful! That did the trick.
You've saved a psu from the landfill.
    Thanks, Bill
