Thread: New Core i7 860 build!

Hey Nate, sorry it's taken nearly a year to get back to this thread. See my above posting for answers to my first year on Crossfire. When it worked, it really kicked butt. When it didn't, it left a bit to be desired. A single 5870 is no slouch, but it's no match for the full force of Fermi in it's proper form, GF110. I could have gotten a pair of 6950's for the same price I guess, and gotten better performance overall, but then it's back to the Profiles Shuffle, and I'm really tired of that.

    And several other rigs...

Late is better than never moshpit. I'm shocked I am still subed to this thread. My needs have changed a bit since my last post. I still have an use an 860, however my latest 2 builds have been with an AMD six core. I am impressed with them. The 1055T pretty much keeps up with the 860. Intel is still my 1st choice but if money is tight AMD has alternatives.

As far as my crossfire question, I never got into gaming like I thought I would. I process a lot of RAW image files and render a lot of video. I am using a simple GTS250 which is more than enough for my needs. I am still using the system I built the week the 860 went on sale and loving every minute of it. I just built a personal system with an AMD 1055T six core. It is as fast as my 860, runs cooler, and is easy to OC.

Thanks for the reply. All the best.

Well, it gets even trickier now. As of yesterday, I ordered a new Core i7 2600K, Asus Sabertooth P67, and Corsair H70 cooler. Gonna move my i7 860+P55 setup over to my wife's PC, upgrading her off of the Q6600@3.6Ghz + Abit IP35 Pro she's currently running.

I picked overnight shipping, so the goodies arrive today! As of a little while ago, it's on the truck and out for delivery! w00t!

Before anybody says it, yes, I know the temps are high in the last screen shot (78C). I figured out a little later that Q-Fan was enabled on the fan headers and it was slowing the fans and pump down. Temps dropped like a stone once I figured that out.
