Thread: Giant Fonts in IE 6!

  1. #1

    Default

Recently I just built my new machine and installed WinXP Pro. All was working well.

So then I started playing around with the Control Panel and the Options of IE6. I then installed a bunch of patches from the MS Update site.

The next time I openned my IE6 there were giant fonts, 1/2" to 12", and the background of the webpages were always white.

I have tried fixing this in the Options window for IE6 and also rebooted. All attempts have left the browser looking the same.

Now I am thinking it was a patch, but checked my install history and saw nothing except "Creative multimedia software update released on June 26 2002." Could this have caused the "problem?" Also, there is no way to uninstall it for me to check.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Tia,

most probably you have zoomed in.
press ctrl key and then move your scroll wheel. scrolling down usually zooms out.
    that shd solve the problem.

other way around can be by going in view menu and setting text size to minimum may be. as Wiggo suggested try doing on Internt Explorer repair. if you can't read the page he linked you to then you can try another browser like Opera or Mozilla Firebird. follow the instructions and get things on track.

    Praise God!

I was blessed to out think the problem I have viewing the repair page wiggo pointed at - I did something very basic and now can at least read the text. What did I do?

    CTRL-A
    CTRL-C
    Open Notepad
    CTRL-V

Thanks for all your help guys.

I editted the registry once I understood what the message was saying.

    FYI: It said:
    1) go to this key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE...,"
    2) find the word "IsInstalled" in this key,
    3) find the value "REG_DWORD,"
    4) set its value from "1" to "0."

I did that, and IE6 was still not fixed. I rebooted and IE6 is still not fixed.

I just got done installing IE6 (the message came up that IE6 was removed - the regedit value of "0" did that - worthless). It didn't fix the problem. I am starting to think it is an update from their update site: http://www.ms.bites.com/upyours.user...H_BILLIONS_AND YOURE_WORTH_NOTHING!

Now I am going to reinstall the entire OS b/c of one little setting??? No wonder MS has the bad reputation it has among computer enthusiasts.

(lol - even the fake url is broken! hahahaha )

After a near 4 hr. phone call to MS Help and Support the solution found was that the old user name was corrupt.

    1) Create a new user.
    2) Copy files over to the new user.
    3) Delete old user.

Thanks for all your help guys.
