When running VNC, all that is really required to run is cpu, mobo, ram and psu. My question is when remotely connecting to a machine, at what resolution does the host machine display at if there is no video card present?

What i wanna do is set up a remote backup box using a machine that no one will have access to expect for me. THis means i dont want a mouse, or keyboard on the possibility of someone deciding to plug in a monitor to it. I want to remove the video card completely and have only a NIC connection.

VNC needs an operating system to run on, at least the one I have does...and an OS will require a video card. There are ways to keep people from hooking up peripahals to the box..but I don't think there is a way to do what you want to do without a video card
I've gone too far and need to move on!

Right, with an OS installed like win2k, I want to remove the video card from the box and have only the NIC so I can remotely access this machine, thanks.

all mobos that Ive played with give error code when video card is missing.
But it looks like you are thinking about building diskless station, and I think thats what Cheezmonster was trying to acomplish.
BTW I do know that you need a special ROM chip on the NICs. I think it had something to do with WOL and having OS on a server and system booting throught the LAN.

thats the link I got on diskless cluster, it may help.
