which program are you talking about anyways  :?:

What problems do I have? Let me hear them! Why don't you give us some points of your own if you think you can! You want proof? How about DRM!?? THERES YOUR PROOF! Microsoft is trying to control some aspects of their operating sytem like it or not! And it is an invasion of my privacy when they think that they can control everything that I choose to play on my computer! Look at the above posts to see what you have to do to disable it for crying out loud! Why don't the makers of winamp (nullsoft) or other players put some kind of DRM into their players if it is so important?? Because they don't seem to have a problem with it, but apparently microsoft does! I don't like DRM, never have.... never will and nobody is going to convince me otherwise! Also, I have nothing to prove to you or anyone else! This is MY opinion and I am entitled to it. We didn't have DRM a few years ago in win 98 and other systems, don't see why it is so needed today. Oh, and while we are at it, if you don't believe that microsoft puts so much focus on control......why is it then that the makers of Intel and AMD chips are considering a proposal to embed thier newer chips with DRM technology?? Now they not only want to put it in the software, but want to control the hardware as well! You think I am the only one that has problems with trusting microsoft?? Ask the US Government how many times they took them to court and you will see that some of their business practices were not all that....shall we say.....honest?? To me, that goes a long way twords their credibility! If they in the past have had business practices that some would question....then how are we to trust anything they say?? DON'T get me wrong here, I am NOT a microsoft hater by any strecth of the imagination! (I have a retail version of win xp pro on my system) I just think that some things need revision!

I think the answer to your DRM question lies outside of M$....I read a recent article (on glossy paper, or I'd paste it) regarding the new XP Media Edition, and those controls are there because M$ is coddling to the motion picture and music industries. Seems they're not gonna produce media for machines that allow file-swapping without some sort of protections against illegal copying and distribution of their products....make sense? Always follow the money trail....

Hey man, M$ MP9 is by far the best player you can use IMHO.
I absolutly LOVE it..!! I work quite frequently with media and I have tryed many other players to in the past but not one can even try to compete with M$ MP9.. sorry..

If one can't even spend 60 sec tweaking a god dam player then one might ask how he can be into any form of tweaking at all.. :?:

BTW it must be hard to live sutch a paranoid life, watch it when ya cross the street as there might be a driver out there who is aiming at YOU!

Don't like M$ software..? Fine then don't buy or use them just quit whining.. :2cents:

In the first place, it is my opinion on this subject that I believe that MS is NOT very honest and open about DRM and if you don't agree with it, TOO ****ING BAD! I am not gonna be anybodys slave and agree to their opinions just because they want me to! I don't believe that MS is commited to being open and honest about everything they do! Sorry! And as far as me whining, I was just stating my opinion on this subject, and now because I don't agree with YOU I am whining?? Get a LIFE! I have the same right to voice my opinion as YOU do, so grow up! Not everyones gonna have the same view as you! I am not paranoid or else I would not use MS Win XP PRO at all! I just feel that there needs to be changes made to how open MS is with their customers in certian areas I don't like MS software?? Did you even read the post of mine above? If you did, you would realize in the last sentance I said "I am not a microsoft hater by any stretch of the imagination" "I just think that some things need revision" And I DO think that things need revision when it comes to DRM! If that is whining to you then too bad! NEXT TIME read the above post...ALL of it!

While we are at it....read the recent post below this one titled "Wm9" Here is the post......."will media player play a avi file. my old player would play these files but i upgraded to player 9 now they wont play. what gives.THANKS BUDDY".......THAT is exactly what I am talking about! Newer people that can't even play a simple .avi file that USED to play fine in the older windows media players and don't know about tweaking it! Just because a lot of people know how to remove the DRM in media player 9...does not mean everyone knows how or even WHAT is causing their files to not play!! To me it is a little self rightious for people like the_tweaker to assume that EVERYONE should automatically know how to fix media player 9 so that the DRM is turned off! Get it through your THICK HEAD dude.....not everyone knows how!

Once upon a time....there were shops that sold garments and products. The shopkeepers trusted their clients to not steal the products without paying for them, but lo, small easily-transported and concealed items still disappeared. Manufacturers reacted to the cries of the shopkeepers by creating devices, some as large and bulky as candy bars to fasten to their products, setting off an alarm when an attempt to remove it from the premises occurred without deactivating the device...Not all shop owners could afford these devices, and smart theives could remove them, but eventually the technology became affordable and effective enough that the tags became commonplace, and prevented honest people from pocketing items not belonging to them.

Microsoft is obviously the leader in PC software sales, but they are also arguably the world's leader in the protection of intellectual property rights (Properties that THEY stand to make money from, natch). Through copyright laws, M$ has secured their position, either by protecting their own interests or knowing how to acquire and secure the inventions of others, and they're willing to spend ALL their money to keep it that way. Digital Rights management is just an extension of what has made M$ all their money, and should be no surprise at all. As for why ONLY M$ has DRM technology embedded in their products.... If the producers of media don't have a way to ensure they'll get paid for their products, they're not going to release products for that format, and will find one that offers them the security they desire. M$ is just reacting to that demand and of course, wanting to make some money in the process by being the leader in producing the tools necessary. Given the scenario above, if you were in the business of providing security devices to vendors, how "open and honest" would you be with giving out the information that would allow the disabling of your security measures? I don't like it (DRM) either, and yes, I would prefer my player to be able to play anything I want it to entirely for free, just as I would love to be able to go into any store and choose whatever I wished without worrying about paying for it, but that's just not gonna happen....not til I have Bill Gates' money to spend, or the specific rights to a given media belong to me. There is a difference between a copyrighted string of words and a patented device, and that's an argument not easily resolved, but it's basically the same idea. I don't see the need to be angry about it.

    YES Wordbiker

You are so right in your post, how can it be wrong to protect copyrighted data from being stolen.. Which is what DRM is all about..

    Now listen here Webe3:

    1. Nobody care about the secret k1nky stuff you store in your computer so don't be so damn paranoid. You ain't got **** to be afraid of so calm down..

    2. About the settings in MP9 you got a point there, not everyone know their way around softwares like this, but the help signs etc is easy enough for a child to read and understand.. They are not more advanced than setting up Winamp or whatever software you want to compare it with.. And it doesn't take any more time either.. :2cents:

    3. Yes you have the right to your own opinion just like me, thats why I wrote IMHO..

    4. So my head is thick.. I though you were man enough to keep the conversation at a mature non assulting level but I'll guess one can't be right all da times so..

@Wordbiker....So everyone is a criminal before they are PROVEN to do any thing?? That sounds more like a line i would expect comming from the RIAA!

    @the_tweaker
    1. I don't have any kinky **** on my computer dude! I just don't want to go to jail for playing an mp3 that I could already own but THE RECORDING INDUSTRY thinks it is illegal because they didn't take the time to check it out, rather relied on BOTS which have been known to mess up before ...GOT IT??

2.If everything is really that easy....how come there is that post I mentioned about somebody not understanding why their new player woin't play stuff their old player did? True, he should have looked harder, but seriously, how many people will take the time to look for an answer to this question before making a post like that!??

    3.No argument there

4.Sorry about my rant, but YOU were the one that told ME to quit whining, which it sounds like what you are doing !

Webe3, do you lock your car when you park it? OK, so you just trust that there are no theives in your area. That must be nice, but if I had something valuable and easily stolen, I'd want a lock on it. Aren't you pissed at auto manufacturers that ship cars with locks too? What about the newer cars with electronic keys? If there was no demand for them, you can bet your sweet arse that they wouldn't come standard.
