    For some reason this is escaping me, but where the hell is the option to keep windows messenger from starting up with Outlook express. It only hides in my tray and wastes resources, the program doesnt actively come up on the screen. Also, I have to go into "msconfig" everytime and take it off the "start up programs" list. So annoying, please help! Thx, : peace2: Mista K6

    Tools-->Options
    You'll see the check box for starting Messenger when signing on. Make sure it is unchecked. ;)

    If you don't actually use Messenger, you can stop it from running at all (for those people like me who couldn't be bothered trying to remove as MS seems to reinstall it with everything).

    If you open up the Group Policy editor (Run - gpedit.msc) then enable the following option -

    You can also just stop it from Startin up with windows by editing
    HKCU/software/microsoft/windows/Current Version/Run and remove the key MSMSGS "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

    Well, it sees start AIM as my main program, so that is the only option, which is unticked. THe Windows Messenger one is no where to be found. Also, I do use Windows Messenger for international purposes. I will try deleting the registry key. Thx for the replies, : peace2: Mista K6

    did you try the simplest method explained in the thread i.e. by Darthtanion ?
    which OS do you have and what is the error that u r getting when u try to start gpedit.msc? gpedit is not there on XP Home btw.
    if all else fails then just go to the messenger folder and rename it to something like nomessenger.
