    Question Dialer Attack

I have had an attacker penetrate my firewall and install a dialer in my system. Each time I attempt to log on the net I have a new user name, password and an overseas phone number. I have run SpyBot and WinSoxFix to no avail. I have also gone through all my internet registry files and cannot find the culprit to delete it.

I'm running WIN XP Home Edition on a HP Pavilion a305w.

How do I get this miscreant out of my system?????

I generally tend toward overkill, but a format/reinstall would take care of it pretty quickly. You will of course want to use a different firewall and tweak the settings a bit to make sure this doesn't happen again.

That and HijackThis should do it for you. Zone Alarm, Sygate, or the Service Pack 2 firewall out to be good for firewalls, but a hardware firewall is even better.

A reinstallation of Windows XP (though I'd be suprised if HP provided you with the tools to do that) is what you should do if those anti-spyware programs and a good AV program can't do it.

Kerio is also another good option for firewall.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll try ad-aware before reformatting.

There is also the messy way of sorting it by messing with the computer registry.
