    Thumbs up Speeding up Firefox

    Tip from TweakGuides - www.tweakguides.com

    <I>Speed Up Firefox
    26 February 2005

Since I keep talking about Firefox being such a great browser, I will provide some quick tips here to speed up Firefox browsing for most people. Eventually I may do a Firefox Tweak Guide, but for the moment try these tips. To start with, to access the advanced settings in Firefox type "about:config" (without quotes) in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. Then adjust the following settings by double-clicking on each one and entering the new value:

    network.http.max-connections: 48

    network.http.max-connections-per-server: 16

    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 16

    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 8

    network.http.pipelining: true

    network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 20

    network.http.proxy.pipelining: true

    nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 0

Note: you will have to create this last entry by right-clicking on the config screen, selecting New>Integer and entering the name "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" then assigning a value of 0.</I>

Seems to work well here, how about for you?

I'm going to try it as soon as I get home. I remember reading an article at Tweaktown (I think) about Firefox being vunerable to some type of Trojen and there is a way to change a setting in the browser to fix the problem, whish I could find the link again becuase I would like to set that setting up on my other systems just as this one is.

Update: Tried it and it seems to be a little faster on first glace. Keep up the good work!!! Is there anyway to get Microsoft VM to work with Firefox?

I need these setting in IE for Microsft VM but Firefox will not open up Microsoft VM at all.

Thats just an example of IE settings (above) to get Microsoft VM to make the Java based emulator I need to work with IE. Problem is that regular Java Sun does not work with this Java based emulator, only Microsoft VM will work and I have no idea how to make it work with Firefox or even if its possible. I can't find settings similar to the those IE settings in Firefox.

I'm not even sure what Microsoft VM is but Firefox already has the Jave Sun extension installed but that does not do the trick just as it wouldn't in IE. IE needs Microsoft VM and I'm assuming FF would also to make the emulator work but how would I install it to Firefox and where would I find those settings? Maybe Microsoft VM doesn't need to be installed to FF, could be that its just a matter of settings, I'm not sure.... but anyway it would be nice just to use FF and ditch IE altogether, but I need that java based emulator that uses Microsoft VM for my work.
