  • File system type

I am a total newbie to linix and I am going to install Redhat 9 soon. I am using Partion Magic to partion my HD and I need to know what file system type to use. My options are FAT, FAT32, NTFS, Linux Ext2, Linux Ext3, and Linux Swap.

since you can't even spell Linux right, i'd recomend you let the install process partition for you...

but in the meantime, read this: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=6162

You need one linux partition and one linux swap partition, since your installing redhat I'd recomend you use Ext3 for your main or root partition, the swap should be max 512MB in size.
If your windows install is on NTFS you'll need to create a small fat32 partition to swap data, linux can read ntfs, although redhat do not ship with it enabled - you'll have to install ntfs read support after the main install, but ntfs write support in linux can cause data corruption, windows can only read and write to MS filesystems (what a surprise ;-), both can read and write to fat32 without any problems.
